This is my third experience with Temptation--my first came about a full month ago and that led me to instantly buy 2 more 750ml bottles. Temptation was my first sour and it was the third beer to really bow my mind in the past couple months (the other two being Founders Breakfast Stout and Weihenstephaner Hefe).
I went into my first experience with this beer with all kinds of mixed feelings and worries--I'd heard such mixed things about sours that I was truly worried.
Probably one of my favorite beers thus far. Don't expect anything but perfection here. And of course it delivers...
Appearance is a cloudy gold color with some beautiful carbonation and a pretty incredible pillowey pure-white head that laces and retains exceptionally well.
Smell is very intriguing- almost like a chardonnay with a nice hint of sourness. There's pear, oak, and a lot of grape (wine notes) on the nose as well.
The taste is beautiful. It's a heavenly experience. I fell in love with Russian River all over again the first time I had this beer. It's well balanced with some great sourness and acidity that don't need to mask the delicious yeasty and apple flavors. I bring up the apple because my good friend, not a beer advocate but someone open to trying new things anytime told me that it tasted like zours, his favorite candy, to him, and that it was subsequently his favorite beer of all time.
Temptation is a bit dry, wonderfully crisp, and an altogether delicious brew. I wish I didn't have friends to share it with because I want the whole bottle to myself but nonetheless I'm so glad to get to share this experience with others.
