Escaped San Francisco with a Saturday Sonoma drive up watching the make believe landscape change; none of this can be real. 2 wineries as we’re too early for Mr. Moonlight, and 2 more afterwards ‘cause we drove by ‘em. Anything else to do up this way? (Duh). Checked in and was temporarily disabled by my hotel bed, but managed to get out and set out a-foggy...

A long straight bowling lane topped bar, wood panel base & piping foot rail; seating for, fuck, I don’t know, at least 2 dozen. Counter space running the barback slightly, with 3 tap towers of 5, 8, & 6 respectively on stainless steel panels, and another 3 more further down. Shelved glassware below taps on center. Framed ‘World Beer Cup’ awards over the taps along the slat wood backed wall space, and double wide horizontal boards above front row center with ABV’s, descriptions, OG’s, + ‘coming soons’, draft & bottle pricing, and happy hour info. Not so random pieces on the boards sills atop there.

To the left, views on a room of barrels with goods (to be sure), and a badass original “New Albion Brewery” sign over its peek-a-boo in on. Past there, house shorty snub growlers over shelved Russian River 375ml bottles to go. GABF medals to the right crisscrossed in displays of 2 & 3 framed and other award type pieces.A wine board, and a single shelf up above with vintage brewerania, bottles, & period pieces. More ‘World Beer Cup’ awards above and shelved pieces atop. Flatscreens in both corners of the bar.

The barback wall is mostly slat wood with beige uppers and blue trim & ceiling, and a deeper red down the hallway to the rear and to the kitchen corner. Cinder block cement far wall red velvety curtained up over, and a front wall of glass windows and doorway positively over 4th Street, with cases, signage, plants and brewerania. Blended duct work overhead, drop suction cup lamps over the bar tracing, and hard hat drops down the center and over the seating areas.

Some light hightop seating down to the far rear towards out back, 6 shorty table hightops adjacent to the bar along a divider (but you have to deal ‘em from up front), and just shy of a dozen tables on the flip side. Kitchenings space to the rear corner there with RR wear displayed above (Do I need a Pliny shirt, or what?), and a small stage in the front corner. Across from thereabouts, a tiny side room around the bend from the front side of the bar offering brew room views. A half dozen or so tables there with vintage beer signage, prints & pieces; Ben diggin’ on the old Colt 45 piece and others (Altes, Simon Pure, Knickerbocker, Schlitz, Ballantine, Gibbons). And a ½ dozen tables out front curbside for the sittin’ at.

19 beers on tap, Great Caesar’s Ghost! One board lists 8 mix & match beers; Aud Blonde, O.V.L. Stout (Irish Stout on nitro), RR Porter (Robust Porter), Gaffers Bitter, Segal Select (Strong Pale Ale), RR IPA, Blind Pig IPA, Pliny the Elder, and a space where ‘Pliny the Younger’ had previously been written. And the other board lists 11 ‘tions’; Redemption (blonde), Perdition (Biere De Sonoma), Damnation (strong golden), Defenestration (hoppy blonde ale), Rejection (black ale), Mortification (Quad), Sanctification (blonde with brett), Damnation Batch 23 (oak aged), Temptation (blonde aged in chardonnay barrels), Supplication (sour aged in pinot noir barrels), and Consecration (sour aged in cabernet barrels). They do a crazy sampler of 18, unfathomable but true. Opted not, but we did drink some of this, some of that, and tried a few things once Ben put a lookin' on people and procured us bar space. The best of ‘em being the RR Porter, Perdition, Blind Pig, Consecration, Supplication, Rejection (their 1X yearly Valentine’s Day beer, which was Perfection), and Sanctification (total ‘effin winner).

Yes, they have a food menu; it’s made up of snacks, salads, sandwiches, and a whole lot of pizza options. Tempting, but there’s Flavor in my future, so no. Dinner done, and now Flavor in the past, we returned to Russian River and stuck around to close the place (not bad for being on NY time). Hard time in the upfront side room; listening to the Dead cover band playin’ up a storm and drinking Pliny & Blind Pig laughingly. Does. Not. Suck.

It's the mecca for many beer enthusiasts, and I'm spoiled to have it in my backyard. This doesn't take away from its superiority, however. It's always a pleasure coming here, and having a few IPA's and maybe a sour.

Employees are a little snobbish(they know what they're offering)but the food, beer and vibe make up for it. It was nice to be able to grab a growler and a case of Blind Pig for the road after dinner.

Craft beer mecca. Pliny lived up to expectations. Fair priced, friendly employees. Food was comparable to other brewpubs.

Merchandise section was overwhelming in a good way. So many things to choose from, including bottles to-go.

Love this place! Only tip is get there early if you want a table. Seems like the line forms to get in about 20 minutes before they open and than they fill up quickly. The bar is wall to wall people who eye you table like vultures which dampens the mood. The bar itself has a nice cool feel to it with lots of things to look at. The service is outstanding and I always feel that from the doorman, to the wait staff to the gift shop everyone is really nice and wants you to have a good experience and they get that visiting the brewery is a big deal for a lot of people. The beer selection is huge and the sampler of 18 beers is worth doing (all the good stuff is on tap). Food is so so but come on your not there to eat but to drink world class beers.

Easily one of the best brewpubs I've been to. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was packed.

Beer is a duh. 15+ house beers on tap, including Pliny the Elder, Blind Pig, and Supplication. Their other sours, farmhouses, belgians, etc are pretty damn good too. I had PtE for $3.50 a pint during happy hour. That's criminally cheap. Even not during happy hour, prices are very reasonable. Get the taster of the whole menu, its worth it!

I've had their food twice and both times it was very good.

You can buy Pliny and other beers to go in the bottle, definitely worth grabbing some to take home.

Lost points on the vibe cause of all the melvins infesting my local spot but they can't be blamed for that. Top notch beer, good enough service (if you aren't a dick), and the food is pretty damn good too. Pliny bites go great with everything, the wings are HOT, the meatball sandwich is great, and the pizzas are all tasty. Clear out the nerds and you'd have a near flawless joint.

Pretty much packed every time I go regardless of a special release or not. The beers speak for themselves and they always have a great selection on tap. Food is pretty good and pairs well with their beers. Service is spotty depending on how crowded the place is. If I lived closer I would be here a lot more, but the drive and wait is well worth the end result.

Vibe - Lots of Hipsters in this place.

Quality - Great beer!

Service - Plenty of friendly help.

Selection - Many beers to choose from.

Food - My margherita pizza was tasty.

Overall - A cool space in downtown Santa Rosa (a great little town). The place is half dive bar/half retro watering hole. Plenty of seating inside and a nice outdoor patio in front. If you're in the area, stop on by.

Typical brewpub atmosphere. Service is usually solid. The food is consistently disappointing. The best sampler of any brewery you'll ever go to. And you can follow it up with extra Elder and usually Supplication and Consecration.

Pliny the Younger, is quite possibly the greatest beverage I have ever consumed. And that monster sauce, is definitely not to be taken lightly

Best brewery I have ever had the pleasure to visit, during the PtY/SFBW they were awesome for how many people are trying to enter, the staff was incredibly welcoming and their food was insanely good - pliny bites! The beer, well that speaks for itself... An absolute must visit for any beer lover

Great service especially at the bar. The food is great! Their savage sauce is really good with the pizza. The pliny bites are always a hit (tip: ask for pepperoni to be added, it's free). Very reasonable prices for exceptional beers! I highly recommend you get a sampler with all the beers. Really great deal!

Live music on Fridays and Saturdays, very nice staff a little slow but the place is crazy busy
and Pliny is on tap there, what else do you need.

Go there for the first two weeks of February and be a part of the Pliny the Younger scene, it's crazy

It can get a bit busy and noisy, but the food is outstanding, not to mention the beer. Pints and chalices of world class beers at unbelievable prices, especially on happy hour. I keep coming up with excuses to stop hete.

This place is awesome. I make the 2 hour drive up here fairly regularly and it never disappoints. Yes, it gets EXTREMELY crowded extremely quickly. It opens at 11 so I recommend getting there right at opening, get your haul and stash it in your car. Then go back in and enjoy some pints, some pizza and the great atmostphere.

I used to go here a lot when I was in college and it was a fun place to grab a bite and a beer with a friend. Since Pliny has gained in popularity I only stop in to fill a growler or grab some bottles. It's always packed and the service has never been very good. But you're not going to the Russian River for the service or the food, you're going for the beer.

I've been lucky enough to be "forced" to travel to Sonoma County for work. RR brewing is a pretty great place on random weeknights when it's not insanely busy. It's always busy, but you can actually find a seat at the bar on random weekday afternoons, and that's pretty important to me.

There are plenty of California trucker hat/hoodie types here, but they don't really bother me. The bar staff are pretty nice when they're not slammed with people. The beer is obviously amazing. This is one of those places that I wish would expand just a little bit, but I fully understand why they don't want to. If you're in the area, you should definitely go, but I'm sure my rating isn't what will compel you in the end.
