Poured into tulip from a bottle dated 4/17/14. So was drank 4 days from bottling.

Pours a nice golden straw color. Crystal clear with a one finger pure white head that quickly dissipates which is expected from this ABV.

Smell is quite typical of your standard tripel with esters and such but the barrel adding charred oak, burnt sugar and some alcohol.

Taste follows the aroma for the most part, a nice malty sweetness. With banana and some pepper yeast esters. A fairly strong oak presence with vanilla and a nice amount of molasses (from the rum barrel no doubt) improving as it warms.

Mouthfeel is a medium body with a good carbonation level (I find many triples over carbed for my liking) But you can tell its a bigger beer with the booze overpowering some of the subtler rum barrel notes that I'm itching to find.

Overall I'm quite pleased with this latest offering in the brick mason series. Red brick have came along way in the last few years in my opinion, and have enjoyed what they have done with their barrel program and look forward to what they offer in the future.

First had poured from 12-oz. bottle, with no bottled on or other date, into goblet. This "3 Bagger" Tripel is not bad at all, although I'm not fond of rum in my beer.

On tap at the 2014 HSS Beerfest (from notes); revised with sample on tap at the brewery.

Fine looking with excellent clarity in the Amber body. Sticky patches of lacing are left by the huge, bone-colored head.

This Belgian tripel has been aged in rum barrels to mainly good effect. The treatment leaves an obvious effect without completely overpowering the delicacies of the tripel, at least in the flavor. There’s a bit more rum barrel dominance in the enticing aroma. Still, cannot smell past the rum barrel effects to assess the tripel base.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Tampa Bay Brewing Company tulip glass.

A: Hazy and dark gold with a finger’s worth of white head with good retention. Fair amount of active carbonation.

S: Rum, vanilla and assorted spices when cold - not much else. As it warms a bit, some Belgian yeast esters start to come through.

T: Bananas and spicy clove, rum and vanilla, and bubblegum all overtop of the malts (cracker and pilsner). These flavors all hit at once. Chewy Belgian yeast and associated esters, big biscuity malt body. Apple and pear flavors show up more after the beers warms some. It finishes with some more rum, tripel alcohol burn, and savory clove and sweeter pear skin esters.

M: Alcohol has a warming effect but not overdone for a tripel. Average carbonation and decent mouthfeel for style.

O: This is definitely one that needs to warm up some from the refrigerator. It isn’t bad at all, but it isn’t anything I'd wish I had more of. A sweet tripel plus sweet rum barrel makes a pretty sweet beer overall. I honestly think this is everything it could be, but I'm not sure I would have picked this treatment for this beer.

Bottled in 2014. Pours a 1 finger off white head into Duvel tulip. Cloudy copper/ amber head with black floaty's. Smell of molasses and raisins. Wow, tastes better then expected, sweat Carmel and dry fruit. Perfect aftertaste. Seems to get better as it warms. The Rum aging has left it with a slight mellow rum flavor and smell, not over powering like other barrel aged ales, just the right balance. This 12oz bottle has aged very well and Im very impressed by this offering. Great Tripel. 4.7
