On-tap at the Brick Store.
Pours one shade from black with a half-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.
Smells of earthy whiskey - very scotch-like - with good amounts of dark fruits - mostly raisins but with some plums. Smoky notes exist and gain steam as the beer warms.
Tastes similar to how it smells, however there's a very slight amount of tartness that wasn't present in the nose. The best (and an admittedly poor) way I can describe it is like the tartness in a gose, very light but with solid presence. The tart dark fruits take equal billing with smoky whiskey notes that carry through to a lightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel is alright. It's a bit on the thin side for a beer this big with light carbonation.
Drinkability is very good. I had a hard time putting the glass down trying to figure out all that was going on with this beer.
Overall I was impressed with this beer and a special thanks to Ding for telling everyone exactly what it's composed of. Well worth a shot if it pops up again.
