bottle poured into tulip shaped glass

Appearance: dark black with a thick brownish head

Smell: The aroma features a complex tropical fruit notes of mango and peach intermingling with classic citrus and pine, as well as a slight hint of cocoa. It is very piney and citrusy overall also blended nicely with a hint of coffee.

Taste: dark roasted malts blended nicely with coffee and a variety of hops mostly on the piney and citrusy side. The flavor is mainly resinous and piney, complimented by a velvety mouth-feel, and finishes with lingering notes of grapefruit and bittersweet chocolate.

Mouthfeel: medium boddied with moderate carbonation and a bitter-sweet, piney coffee dry finish.

Overall: This is an excellent brew by Red Brick Brewing Co. This beer is perfect to enjoy during a cookout. This is definitely more on the sweet malty side. I was expecting more of a hop explosion since they use 6 different types of hops and over 2lbs of hops in each bach, but surprisingly this is fairly balanced--more on the sweet malty side. This is another excellent underrated beer by Red Brick. I would definitely buy this again.

Pours nearly pitch black except for some deep reddish highlights when held to the light,a full one finger tannish colored head atop that clung nicely to the glass as it settled.Piney hops stand out most in the nose along with some of the spicy rye,dark fruit, and bitter chocolate,to me it's very much hop forward.Flavors have a dark bread component to go along with mild roast and earth,there is just a light shot of piney hops,to me the dryness-earthiness is the main flavor profile,only light brown sugar-like sweetness in the finish.To me it's a hopped up porter but I like it,I like it alot.Just solid,no compaints here.

Bottled on 04/18/13.

A - Black with one finger of light brown head with good retention.

S - Deep roast, chocolate, spice; some pine and citrus aromas.

T - Roast and cocoa up front with a hint of coffee. Moderate bitterness mid palate with some pine and lighter citrus flavours. Really well balanced.

M - Medium body. Creamy. Some stickiness. Light carbonation.

Brick Mason series #6

Pours black, with a light brown head, nice lace, good retention. Aroma was spicy, piny hops, chocolate, roast malts. Upper medium bitterness level, piny, resins, chocolate, roasted malts, slight brown sugar, mild coffee. Creamy feel, somewhat velvety, good carbonation and clean finishing.

Comes off as a hopped up stout. Good balance though, and the stout qualities are real nice and the hoppiness backs it well.
