Poured into a small tulip glass jet black with a thinner khaki colored head atop,it just looked menacing...in a good way.Roasted nuts play a big role in the nose along with bitter chocolate, and vanilla/oak.Low carbonation and a fuller chewey feel is nearly spot on for this beer, just great for slower sipping.Flavors are rich with roasted nuts and bourbon notes but not over the top, chocolate and alcohol dipped dark fruit in the finish.I really liked this beer, rich but not over the top with the barrel.

12 oz bottle into a snifter.

Pours completely opaque black. A small mocha colored head that quickly recedes to a thin ring. Light lacing and legs on the glass.

Nice bourbon aroma, just slightly boozey when compared to most of this style. Some creamy oatmeal at play with perhaps a touch of smoke.

Not huge on bourbon flavor but it's there, more in the finish. More as it warms. Oaky vanilla, smooth oatmeal with traces of charred wood and smoke. Quite nice. Very slight hints of oxidation at times. Some chocolate as well.

Thick creamy mouthfeel. Very smooth and velvety. Full bodied.

A pretty nice barrel aged stout, there are much better examples out there but considering the price and availability I'd drink this again.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a snifter. This beer was brought back from Atlanta in August.

The beer pours a dark engine oil color with a thick-looking consistency. The head doesn't show up on the pour and only forms about a quarter of an inch thick when the glass is turned upright.

The smell is a potent dark chocolate with toasted malt and coffee. Hints of booxe waft in and out but don't suggest that the bottle is aged in bourbon barrels. It's really more of a chocolate showcase. Interestingly, the bourbon barrels impart more characteristics on the taste, where a spicy rye taste and mild heat from the booze join with the chocolate, coffee and malt characteristics to create a real treat. There's a lot of different flavors moving around the palate, yet they are all in good harmony.

The beer really is a treat. The beer is thick, creamy, and its booze well-disguised. This is a beer I wish I'd purchased a case of, rather than just one. Outstanding.

On-tap at Oblivion in Orlando. Pours a deep dark black color with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla and some notes from the bourbon barrels. The taste is sweet and roasted malts up front with vanilla and a lingering warm and boozy finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Overall, I feel like this one can definitely need it from some aging. It is just a little too hot at this point for me, needs to mellow out a little.

Bottle:

Reminds me of KBS, but with a bit less of the thick chocolate taste and the bourbon is hidden further. Very balanced throughout with a touch of dark chocolate bitterness. Should be even better in 6 months to a year. Bought 1.5 cases of this stuff before it disappears.

Draft (Growler):

As compared to the bottle, a bit less bitter and more robust of a lightly candied dark chocolate flavor. Seems less viscous, making it easier to drink more quickly, but it is a bit more carbonated than the bottle. Definitely a treat, but I actually think the bottle might be my preference. Would love to try a keg after a year or so.

12 oz. The usual black pour, thin layer of tan head. Some minimal lacing.

Aroma, Chocolate, caramel and some barrel induced vanilla.

Taste, Light roast malt, chocolates, toffee. Some vanilla. Big woody oak component. Finishes a little drier, some cocoa coffee and anise.

Near full body. Carbonation a little more than creamy. Alcohol well in check.

A real nice blend of barrel and base beer. Not a barrel bomb, but a well done treatment.
