Blech. Bad beer. Had it because it was a hot day, I was thirsty and I thought this would be a decent quenching beer. It's not even that. Pours a very pale yellow. No head to speak of, no lace whatsoever. Smells of rice, pale malts, and lake Ontario water. Not good. Taste is terrible. This stale sweetness, awful taste that ends sour. Mouthfeel is thin and watery. Pretty much undrinkable. It didn't even quench my thirst. Not much to write about it. It's just, simply put, a very bad beer.
I just had this beer ice cold. So ice cold, in fact, that chunks of ice were floating in the glass. It's drinkable swill.

A - Pale golden yellow with a half-finger head that dissipated to a light foam.

S - Weak. All I can smell is a hint of cereal grain and a slightly sour smell. After a few tries I got a hint of skunk.

T - Overly sweet and slightly metallic with a hint of grain. Again, a grainy and bland aftertaste with a touch of alcohol. The burp had more taste than the gulp.

M - Left my mouth feeling slightly dirty. It didn't finish clean, instead leaving a sickening foamy feeling lining my mouth.

D - If I saw this in a cooler in a party, I might throw myself on the grenade and drink it so someone else doesn't have to. It's not the worst beer I've ever had, and part of me wants to find something to like about it, but I wouldn't buy it again. One and done, folks. Buy it, talk some smack about it, then chug it and go grab a good beer.

My first tick from Vietnam.

Pale yellow with decent clarity. The thin and fizzy head disappeared as quickly as it came.

Tons of green apple on the nose, along with cabbage and buttered Wonder Bread. Smells like a hobo's dinner.

Palate is similar, offensive amounts of green apple met by milder but no less offensive amounts of buttery diacetyl and cabbage-like DMS. Some pale malt and filmy rice sweetness appear in the slick finish. Pretty horrid.

Asian beers don't seem to work very well outside of Asia .... this one smells rather disgusting (somewhere between a lacquer factory and smelly feet) .... and tastes like some artificially flavoured herbal tea .... honestly, no use to import it all the long way ....

330ml bottle served in a Weizen glass.

A: Pours a pale yellow crystal color forming a ridiculous white bubbled head. Retention is ridiculous and no lacings are left

S: Horrible smell of rice and corn. Flowery hops trying to give it some appeal... useless

T: Terrible as the nose. Sweet grains upfront. Strong notes of rice and corn. Slightly hoppy bitter end

M: Light body. Medium to high carbonation. Adjunct malts faint hoppy bitter aftertaste

O: One of the worst things I've ever drunk

A rather plain-Jane beer. Gold pour with a short white head settling to a film, gives up reasonable lace.

Overall somewhat more harsh than it needs to be. Metalic nose and aftertaste, lingering unpleasant bitterness. Actually smells a bit like malt liquor.

Unremarkable, slightly unpleasant in some ways. Pass on it.

355mL bottle with no apparent freshness date (though a code on the foil could be interpreted as a date of some kind) poured into a pint glass.

Body is clear yellow, lots of carbonation and a few floaties. Head is generous at first pour, but quickly settles to a thin ring. Retention's good, better than many in the style.

Aroma is a little sugary, maybe some hops in there. Really mild, almost nothing there.

Taste is watery, tangy apple juice.

Mouthfeel is light and bubbly. Par for the course here.

I'm not choking on this, but I'm far from enjoying it either. Maybe if I was in Saigon, chowing down on some cha gio I'd go for this, but there are too many AALs that taste better to waste my money and palate on this stuff.

Picked up a bottle of this at Austin Liquors.

A - Poured into a Duvel tulip a crystal clear golden adjunct larger pour with a fizzy one finger head that fades at the typical quick rate to leave no head at all.

S - Awfully sweet, lots of malt sweetness. Getting some super light grassy hops but thats it. Too sweet smelling.

T - Taste is screwed too. Way too sweet. More sweet malts and I guess sweet apples too like others have said. No hops, no yeast, just sweet. eh.

M - Nice carbonation cant help the thin, watery mouthfeel.

O - Overall, meh. Save your money. Atleast I get to check off another country.

Bottle at a food stall in Ha Tien. Served in a plastic mug with tons of ice. From notes.

A - Poured an apple juice colour with mild carbonation and a one finger white head that went fast. No lace or retention.

S - Lot's of corn. Nothing else really.

T - More corn, honey, sweet grain. Big adjuncty corn flavour. Typical macro adjunct yawnfest.

M - Mild carbonation, very light body and sweet finish. Not enough carbonation.

O/D - Tasted this quite a few times before. Same old stuff. Went down smooth though, and seemd OK for what it was, but overall not really good times with this one.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams Boston Lager glass.

Appearance: Pours a translucent, vary pale yellow color. Has a very small, fizzy head that dissipates almost immediately and leaves no discernible lacing.

Smell: Grainy with a bit of a fruity character to it. Actually better than I was expecting and better smelling than most adjunct lagers.

Taste: Moderately bitter up front. Finishes slightly sweet and a little sour. This beer has almost no flavor and doesn't even really stack up against most American macros. Kind of a let down after a better-than-average smell.

Mouthfeel: Thin, like carbonated water.

Drinkability: This is awful. Yes, it's "drinkable" but would you really want to drink it. I would give it lower marks but it's not overtly offensive just outright flavorless. Skip it...

Picked this up because I figured it would be one of my few opportunities to try a Vietnamese beer. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass at low altitude.

A: Pours a clear yellow color, perhaps slightly darker than most adjuncts, with a pitiful fizzy white head (you can literally hear it fizzing like a soda) that fades before I can even take my first sip. Needless to say it didn't leave any lacing.

S: A weak smell overall, not much if anything in the way of hops or malts. Maybe some adjunct grain (probably rice).

T: Although this one doesn't develop much flavor by any measure, it has more malt character than I expected, which starts to come through on the finish.

M: Light-bodied and fizzy. Definitely a lot of room for improvement here, but I suppose this is what you'd aim for when brewing a beer like this.

D: As one would expect, this is really no different from any other adjunct lager in the world.

I was out at a Vietnamese restaurant with our Melbourne friends and so they ordered some beers for the nite. I had low expectations for the bottle labelled '333' and was not let down. The beer pours a bright gold color with small fizzy bleached white head almost non-existant after a very quick recession. THe aroma is very mild with some lite caramel and a fairly sweet slightly grainy nose. First sip reveals a lite body and mild carbonation. The flavor is mild but exhibits sweet sugary and grainy malt.
Flavor is dominated by hard candy sugaryness. Very easy to drink due to the lite body and clean profile. It goes well with fairly spicy food, but isnt overly complex or interesting.
I wouldnt buy it with my own $$.

Pours a fizzy light yellow with almost no head. I'll admit that I read the label and saw that rice is listed as an ingredient before hops

Taste:...rice, malty...

Mouthfeel: not bad at all really. Sharp, biting carbonation with a thin to medium body is pretty much what I expected

Drink: It did the job and washed down my pad tai

Another international contribution to the LCBO, i.e. a pale lager. Sudsy head though almost transparent body. Some taste with some leaf bitterness well malted and distinctly metalic. Metalic on tongue. Drinkable with a salty snack or veggies. Not satisfying but not water eiher.

looks like your average lager..very clear amber yellow with poor head retention but above average lacing.

aroma is pretty faint with some grainy malt, grassy hop. Maybe a hint of cooked veggies.

Wow..weak. Some faint hop bitterness, sweet malts, and adjuncts. Not impressed at all.

watery & thin mouthfeel

thank the Lord for single beer in a liquor store because I'd be pouring out the other 5.

Rice rice rice! This tastes like a beer that was derived from rice, but shouldn't have been.
The appearance is clear, saturated and beautiful. That's where the fun stops.
The smell isn't plesant. It doesn't smell dangerous, just unappetizing.
It tastes like rice. It tastes like they cooked it in some kind of container that they shouldn't have. It doesn't work.
The mouthfeel is too thin.

330ml bottle poured into pint glass july3 2010

A clear straw yellow with a crazy amount of carbonation that leads up to a cola like head that fizzes out before you know it with no time to leave any lace

S some wet sour rice cake and some rancid lemon

T sadly it tastes as it smells but with some added skunk

M thin and over carbonated

D hard to enjoy a beer that tastes lousy, I don't think I'll be drinking this again unless it's a safe alternative to some jungle water

I swear I've reviewed this beer before and I don't think I cared for it then either, don't go looking for this one it's not so good

Bottle: Poured a bright golden yellow color lager with a big bubbly white head with minimal retention. Aroma of malt is a bit weak with no hops presence easily detectable. Taste is bland but in no way gross. At least it did not skunked while travelling 3000 miles to get to my place.

355ml Bottle

Appearance – Crystal clear light yellow colour with an average size fizzy white coloured head. There is a low carbonation showing and there isn't much lacing. The head lasted for around 3 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains, corn, honey, pears/apples

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an above average amount of carbonation. I can taste breads/grains mixed with a honey sweetness and some cooked corn. There is also a bit of a skunky and metallic taste to it.

Overall – A below average adjunct lager. The taste was bad - even for an adjunct. I wouldn't buy this beer again.

From a 355 ml brown bottle, gold foil around the neck and cap, abv listed at 4.9%. Pours out a clear straw colour, lazy carbonation, two fingers of tight foamy white head that settles quickly.

Grainy at first on the nose, some light bready malt, some tart/sour adjunct, light spice, some veg.

Rough, husky, grainy malt up front in the flavour, sour tartness from the rice in the middle, veg and salt on the finish and lingering aftertaste.

Light mouthfeel, very prickly abrasive carbonation, dry salty aftertaste.

This barely hits the radar, not overwhelmingly offensive, yet enough flaws that it doesn't do much to redeem itself for another round or another look. Bland.

Yet another typical macro. Lace is a bit stickier than expected. Taste is a bitterer than expected, but not in an interesting way - just a flat out boring bitterness. Somewhat dry and a little astringent. Overall, a one dimensional icky macro I'll never try again.

This lager pours a pale, straw gold, with medium white foam and no lace to speak of.

Sweet adjunct aroma. Nothing special here.

Taste is overmalty and light. Rice is evident.

Not a great beer by any stretch of the imagination, but mine was likely out of date (purchased from a less-than-reputable liquor store).

I'm sure this one would fare much better alongside some spicy Asian carryout, but as it stands, I'd avoid this one.

Thin head on a clear, light straw colored body.
The aroma is light, metallic with a little grain.
The taste is all just a moderate white sugar sweetness. One sided and not great.
The texture is crisp with some fizziness; moderate carbonation.
One of the worst beers I've had. Not real aroma or taste.

Crystal clear, light yellow body with a fizzy white head. Sounds like I just poured milk into a bowl of Rice Crispies.

Faint aroma is sweet with notes of green apples and DMS.

Acetaldehyde, DMS; a real bundle of off flavors for a beer with so little flavor. Carbonation provides more stimulus for the palate than either the hops or the grain. Slightly sweet on the finish.

Fizzy and thin.

Imagine if you paid for Stone IPA but got Hamm's instead. That is Saigon Export. It is the very definition of a flawed Adjunct Lager, but it retails for about $10 a 6pk. I feel sorry for Viet Nam if this really is their national beer. Budweiser is clearly MUCH better than this.

Poured from a 33cL bottle into a mug so frosty it's opaque in Hoi An.
Limpid yellow with low carbonation and hilariously short lived head. It smells kind of musty and dank.
Either my standards have been shot to hell in SEA (yeah) or these beers are tastier than they have any right to be. Well carbonated, nearly crisp, with a strong malty sweetness that comes across almost fruity. The aftertaste is sharp and not entirely pleasant.
I wouldn't steer you away from this one.
