This place has live jazz a lot which is really nice and a cool spot for closing out an evening on the mall. Food is pretty much bad, but more or less typical bar food. Beers on hand are fine, nothing spectacular. I'd generally opt for scotch here but it's definitely a cool place and the service isn't terrible, even when it's really busy.

We stopped in here for a couple of late night beers. Miller's is located conveniently on the pedestrian mall, about a block from our hotel. One long bar on the left tables on the right, two more floors above which we did not visit. More dirty than gritty for my liking.

Atmosphere is probably usually fine, but the table playing quarters right behind us was quite annoying. Can't say I have ever seen that in a bar before. Probably not a good sign when you advertise six taps of local beer and five of them are out. We had a couple of bottles of local beers (bottle list was fine).

Not a place I'd head back to anytime soon.

Stopped here for lunch on a Sunday before leaving VA. DMB had just played a two night stand at UVA so the place was swamped for the past four days. Due to this fact they were out of most food, and it took 90 minutes for our food to come out. When it did it was for the most part cold. Understandable though - I guess. The food was great though. They're BBQ and honey mustard sauce for my chicken fingers might just be the best I've ever had. Our server smoothed over the cold food / long wait issue by giving me some of the sauces to head home with. Great selection of bottles and beers on tap. My only advice to Millers - if you know DMB is coming to town, you know you're going to be busy, when placing your food order for the week...order double.

Oh, Millers. I haven't been back since the restaurant smoking ban went into effect, which probably makes it much nicer--it was really smoky in there. The night I went there was live music which was about 3 times louder than it should have been and absolutely terrible. Beer selection is okay but not great, they have the Smuttynose IPA, Starr Hill and some Rogue but nothing too exciting beyond that. The food was definitely not worth the cost. They had a few veggie things but they were more than I really wanted to pay, and beyond that they tasted very bland. So while the other burgers may be okay (I'm unsure as to if this is true or not) the veggie burger certainly was not. I only have gone here when it was the only place in town open.

This is the only bar to which I will go, chiefly because they serve Imperial pints of Guinness, but also the atmosphere is usually pretty cool: just sleazy enough without going over. Nice and dark, lots of smoke, and usually pretty good (they even play the Velvet Underground over the house system). I've seen some good acts up on their bandstand/front window. The crowd is generally diverse, both racially and socioeconomically. It's almost best to be there in the summer, when UVa students are scarce. The food is decent--good burgers and not bad fish n' chips. The nice thing is they don't try to foist food upon you, unlike many bars in Virginia. So many people come there to get high, they just resign themselves to the drinking.

I visited Miller's recently on a vacation with my wife and it was worth the trip. We didn't go to eat there but I had a few pints of Starr Hill which were very good. The atmosphere was very cool. A nice corner bar with a good vide going on. Overall they had a pretty good bottle selection and drafts as well.

They also have live entertainment which is cool. We were there when John D'Earth was playing. He is a local Jazz legend that played with some of the members of the Dave Matthews Band in the past. Overall a very cool experience and worth a trip if you are in downtown Charlottesville.
