Another English beer that will be misunderstood by the masses. Very deep copper, almost brownish in color with a slight haze from bottle conditioning. The light tan head holds a good 1/4" very well and leaves a good collar and very nice solid lace. The aroma is lightly metallic (fuggles hops), slightly citrusy (like lemon rind) and gently malty. The body is medium-light with a rich creaminess in the mouth. The flavor is mainly malty; lightly chocolatey with some toffee and molasses up front, softening as it crosses the palate with a cookie dough sweetness, and slipping away with a quick flash of hop flavor and just a light caramel and powdery cocoa note in the finish. The bitterness is just enough to support the caramel-maltiness. Certainly more than what the nose indicates. Incredibly supple. Wow! This is a beer that offers a great deal of character along with an immense drinkablility. Quite enjoyable and fulfilling!

Served cool from 500ml brown bottle into straight pint glass
L) Chestnut brown colour, slight haze, fluffy 1 inch off-white head.
S) NIce warm malty odour, slightly roasted, some yeast. Smells a bit sweet.
T) Well-roasted malt and pleasant light bitter hops. Very light balancing sweetness at the end. Nicely balanced, leaves slight bitterness at the back of the mouth, just enough.
F) Nicely carbonated, easy drinking and a slight bitter aftertaste. Very pleasant.
O) Very nicely balanced 'dark' pale ale / bitter, one of the better ones available from the supermarkets.

A: Big chunky light beige head. Browny amber body.
T: Dry, but subtle hops with fudge and some nutiness. Very similar to 1845, just not as strong in flavour. Citrusy aftertaste.
O: I'm sure it would be great on cask but from the bottle it's a tad dull. Sound though.

A- dark amber, very little carbonation. No head retention at all.
S- warm, but in a really non descript way. Little bit of fuggles and malt.
T- malty and with good hop character coming through late on... But there is a strange carbonic taste, like flat san Pellegrino. I would understand this if the beer was more.carbonated, but it isn't.
M- average. Will be better when on hand pump and with a head, but from the bottle it is average.
It's an ok bitter, many other's just as good, many others much worse. Would get it in a pub above any macro.

(Notes of Nov. 07) Tasted by a half-pint at the Swim Inn, a JDW pub on the West Street, Sheffield; served by a sparkler pull.
A: pours a bright dark-amber hue with low carbonation and off-white creamy forth lingering on the top.
S: lightly dirty-cloth-like notes as of Fuggles plus very a mild input of pale malts, skirted by a yeasty touch like a true, old pale ale.
T: extremely fruity upfront, with a clean, sour-sweet apple-ly tongue and bitter-sweet biscuity malts, a light touch of caramel... finished with long and chewy hop bitterness as well as wild nutty malt's bitter edge. Bittrerness sinks in slowly, to result in a superb finish full of hops and malt aroma.
M&D: clean on the overall palate, softly carbonated, medium-bodied, but in need of more aroma and a slightly more assertive taste to make an outstanding pint.
(Notes of 17/06/2005)
Tasted a pint of this beer on cask at my local Wetherspoon in East End London yesterday.
4 Appearance: slightly cloudy, dark-amber hue, with a very foamy, dark yellowish or slightly brownish beerhead and minimum carbonation, leaving very fine lace around the glass.
4 Smell: lightly tangerine-peel and fruity hops underlining a perfumy, mildly toffeeish, dark-malty nose. Not very outstanding nose as such but the delicately balanced aroma is unmissable.
4 Taste: very satisfying but not overpowering Fuggles hops upfront, with lightly hazelnuts' malty palate at the back. A soft, perfumy floral flavour adds a pleasant bittersweet feel to the overall palate. The aftertaste is mildly hoppy and chewy bitter-sweet--satisfyingly refreshing!
4.5 Mouthfeel & 4.5 Drinkability: medium-bodied and medium-full flavoured, the mouthfeel is round and smooth...almost sublime~~ A beer to enjoy alone and to quaff with a bunch of friends.

Lucent orange-bronze with the slightest hint of red. The smallish head is equal parts ivory, orange and ecru. It makes up for its lack of size with persistence and a short collar of lace that turns into a four finger high collar as the beer falls with drinking. I like the way this one looks; especially the color.
The nose is fair to middlin' for an English pale ale. Hops are more prominent than malt, as it should be. The hoppiness is musky, earthy and fruity (overripe apples and musky peaches). It doesn't smell like Fuggles or Goldings are present, although I wouldn't be surprised to find that the latter are a contributor to the hop bill.
Workie Ticket is more malty on the palate than hinted at by the nose. It tastes like whole grain toast with caramel and spice underpinnings. While the hop flavor is distinctive, I don't have enough flavor memory of the English varieties to make a positive identification. In addition to the above, the beer tastes like a lightly spiced fruit compote made from bruised apples and pears. It's tea-like as well, with very little bitterness.
Nothing especially new or different happens on the finish. The various members of the flavor profile have their say and move quietly along. The light-medium mouthfeel contributes to the rapid de-escalation and I find myself wishing for something to chew on, even if only a little. Carbonation, never abundant to begin with, comes dangerously close to nonexistent by the bottom of the bottle.
Worky Ticket (British slang for a mischief maker or a trouble maker) is a decent English pale ale that could use a hook. In other words, it could stand to be a bit more mischievous. Whether that means more Workie or more Ticket, I couldn't say.
