Poures from a 22oz bottle into a North Coast chalice. No bottle date.
A - pours a somewhat hazy medium-light orange with a finger and a half head that is slightly tan in color. Lots of carbonation bubbles form but the head doesn't last very long.
S - hoppy but slightly oxidized. Boozy. Hops are alighly citrus and piney. I'm thinking it's lost some aroma from the greatness it once was.
T - very hop forward as expected and it hits with a high bitterness too. Has to be 100 +. Piney, slightly resin and some citrus notes in the hops. Some tropical notes of mango and pineapple late. No malts I can really distinguish except just a tad of caramel early on before the IBU assault on my tounge. A nice, slightly dirty hop bitterness lingers on the palate. Slightly boozy.
M - fairly thin and dry which I prefer in IPA and IIPA.
D - easy to let it sneak up on you. The booze and IBU keep it from being to easily drank, but the dryness almost balances the other two factors out.
Overall, I am enjoying this beer, I just wish I could have tried it maybe a weeks weeks younger. The IBU monster is very enjoyable and I think some of the aroma the dissiapted would have added to this one for me. I will be sure to try it again when I can be guaranteed it is fresh to see how it stacks up.
