22oz. bottle into imperial pint glass; poured cold and tasted as it warmed. Picked this up at the awesome Quik Stop in Durham, NC.
A - Robust, cloudy amber-orange, with a head that hangs around. Bottle warns "Refrigerate: Live Ale Inside!" but some of the cloudiness also seems to be chill haze which cleared a bit as the beer warmed up.
S - Not as much hops on the nose as I expected, but certainly some there.
T - Get a bit of malt and alcohol up front, very briefly before the grapefruit hops elbow their way in and push the malt aside. Here's the best part though; the malt and hops then hold hands and blend on the palate. You get this real *nice* malty sweetness (with some roastiness too) that lingers for a bit until the grapefruit finishes things off for a nice long while. Sweetness really asserts itself more and more as the beer warms up too.
M - Thick and syrupy are two words I'd use; this beer has some heft to it.
D - This is a serious beer with lots going on; probably couldn't drink it forever, but I am sure am enjoying this one.
This is a pretty darn good IPA; lots going on in the glass. Look forward to trying their Double IPA (8.5%!).
