Found this 22 oz. brown bottle at Sal's Liquors in Addison, IL. At $5.49 a bottle it's not a cheapy, but it won't cause an overdraft at the bank either. No freshness or bottled on date to be found, but the label is chock full of information about all the awards this beer has won, and then there is even a map on the back showing directions to the brewery.
Pours a nice looking hazy apricot color with a 2 finger foamy white head that lasts forever and leaves tons of nice lacing all over the glass.
Pine and citrus hops dominate the powerful and wonderful smell.
The hops rule in this one, as they should in an IPA, but the hops used here are an exceptionally tasty blend of pine and grapefruit that blend nicely with a touch of malty sweetness. Then add to this a touch of spicy alcohol and you have one hell of a nice beer.
It has a medium to full body to it with a fairly high level of carbonation, which I think fits perfectly with this style.
My only caution is that it did not get better as it warmed up. It mellowed out too much as I let it sit, so my advise is to drink it while it's cold. It's delicious.
