christmas tasting hosted by biegaman on dec 15/07. he contributed this one. thanks jan!
22oz bottle.
pours orangey amber with a small dense white head. the head drops fast and leaves spotty lace behind.
aroma is ok. big floral blast - dandelions? overcooked broccoli. bit of peppery spice.
taste is not great. the dandelion returns along with some fresh cut grass - like cutting your dandelion-filled lawn on a spring day. a weird mash of over powering spices and flowers. grain. bit of alcohol. touch of caramel.
mouthfeel is ok. medium-low carbonation level. light body.
drinkability is not good. we split the bottle three ways and all dumped about 3/4 of our glasses. way too much spice and weirdness going on here.

Must have been old but for 6.00 I figured it would be a nice winter beer.
A - Nice hazy yellow with an inch of head that turns to a moderate lace. Very bubbly carbonation, this beer still has life!
S - Nothing really stands out on the nose. Mild yeast tones, maybe a bit of orange and coriander with a slight peppery zest.
T - Tastes like a good Wit. Got a bit of orange zest and a nice spice bit from the white pepper. The pepper spice was something I was not used to and kind of rounded the yeasty like malt with the spice twang. Enjoyable. ABV non existent but the orange turns more of a lemon with hop bitterness. Complex indeed.
M - Light to medium. Found it pretty easy to sip and enjoying all the flavors.
D - Man what a nice beer. I don't know if I would go back for a second but surly would expect another bottle next winter. Still the beer even months old, delivered a nice splash of spice orange and hoppy flavors. Better than expected for a "winter lager" (hint hint Samuel Adams)

Review from notes, sampled about 2 months ago...
Pours an effervescent honey color with one finger of ivory colored head. Minimal head retention
S: Grassy hops, wet grain & breadyness
T: Lemon & grassy hops, plus grainyness, plus honey malt & orange rind. Honey malt & pear once warm, slight astringeny, plus lemons. Finishes with white pepper, coriander & powdery dryness
MF: Medium bodied, firm carbonation & okay balance
Drinks alright, but not that good a take on the style...

Its a cold winter night in mid michigan and my first review of the new year, so I decided to go with a bomber of white christmas from moylan's brewery, so lets see how it goes. Poured from a brown 24 ounce bottle into a pint glass.
A- This beer pours a pale hazy golden orange color with 2 fingers worth of white head that died down to a thin layer that stayed the rest of the time.
S- The only things I am picking up in the aroma are wheat and yeast with a little bit of orange peel on the finish.
T- The wheat comes out the most in the taste but other then that it is pretty bland. The only thing I can taste that was advertised on the bottle was the orange peel. I don't taste any cinnamon, coriander or white pepper. All in all not a lot going on here, the taste reminds me of a popcorn kernel.
M- Medium bodied and well carbonated.
D- The flavors are very mild and the alcohol is hidden well, but there aren't enough good flavors to make me grab another one, glad I am splitting this bomber with my brother.
Overall I was unimpressed by this beer, I was expecting a nicely spiced lager but all I got was a dull typical wheat beer with orange peel. I don't think I will ever revisit this beer. This was my first brew by moylans and it left a bad first impression.

Poured with a nice, foamy, frothy, off white head that lasts, and lots of lace. Color is a cloudy medium amber. Aroma is huge hops. Hop bomb.
Flavor is mainly hops with malt, caramel, butter, and yeast. Body is good and so is carbonation. Finish is like flavor. Too much for me.

Beer review from BA Mag Nov 2007.
Witbiers or White Ales have been quite popular the past year or so. As most are marketed heavily during the summer, it is quite interesting to see the style as a winter seasonal. In a way it makes total sense being that the spices used are "holiday" in flair.
The heavy pour yields a thick chunky-bubbly head with good retention as it leaves rings of lace down the glass. Spiced sugar cookie-batter malt aroma, a hint of butter and a rounding of spices in the nose. More smoothness than crispness with a medium body. A bold spice character actually adds bitterness from the orange peel and coriander with a mild bite from the black pepper. Hops complement that and mesh well with the slightly warming alcohol that throws a light tart plum-fruitiness at the taste buds. Hint of butter with a big sweet biscuity malt flavor, a tad juicy in the middle. Quick spikes of cinnamon and mace hit when the finish just starts to dry out with a lingering bitterness.
This is not your light and fluffy Belgian Witbier here; a bit more body and alcohol with a generous spicing and hopping brings this beer up a couple of notches. Perhaps a bit too complex to drink on its own, a dessert pairing of pumpkin pie would work great.

22 oz. bottle tried 12 Jan 2008.
Tight small off white head. Well carbonated. Clear and bright, color of buttenut squash. Smells somewhat spicy, like mace. Starts somewhat dry, moderately spicy. Orange, ginger, nutmeg all noticeable. Faint vegetal finish. Medium to light body. Alcohol light. Would have preferred a little more orange and coriander.
Shouldn't a wit be cloudy?

Poured a copper orange color with a good amount of white head. Aroma was heavy on the yeast and orange peel; some hints of spice. Low amount of carbonation created a deliciously smooth and light mouthfeel. Flavor on the other hand was pretty boring. Pronounced honey, bread and citrus; spices were only a minimal presence. Some sugary elements as well. Some positive and negative attributes to this one.
