Found this 22 oz brown bottle at Geno's Liquors in Elgin, IL for $9.99 a bottle. This is about twice the price of most of the other Moylan's beers on the shelf, so I'm hoping this will be twice as good. The rest of the label is filled with awards this beer has won.
The beer pours a slightly hazed golden orange color with a 3 finger fluffy white head that lasts a few minutes before subsiding. A nice amount of lace is left behind as the head goes down and as you drink it.
The smell is all hops with pine dominating and grapefruit not far behind.
The taste is also hop dominated and very bitter. The pine and grapefruit aromas found in the nose are also present in the taste along with some other sweeter fruit flavors and a good dose of sweet malt. The 8.5% alcohol content also finds its way into the taste and really dominates the aftertaste. You will have to like well hopped bitter beers to enjoy this, but since I do, I found this delicious.
Medium bodied with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Bitter and a bit oily on the tongue, but it is supposed to be that way.
This beer is very drinkable if you like hoppy bitter beers. If you have a sweet tooth, then you might want to pass, although for me, there was plenty of malt in here to make it an enjoyable drinking experience.
