Poured from a bomber into a tulip. Appearance is clear, good carbonation, 2 finger off-white head with good lace. Color is a red amber. Smell is fruity and resin hoppy. Lots of high-alpha hop aroma, some simcoe or chinook. Big and bold, but somewhat laking in sophistication and complexity. Taste is bitter throughout and somewhat redundantly so. A rich citrus cream comes through between the initial hop bite and bitter aftertaste, along with a tad of sour booze and hints of ginger. Oaky and grassy, but predominantly fruity alpha hop. Body is a little light, but drinkability is still high.
This is a simple but somewhat unique brew, keeping in style with California DIPA's without clinging to the overdone grapefruit Cascade crutch. It definitely has some similarities to FFF's Alpha King. I admire the style and I'de drink it again for sure, but it's not exactly spectacular, either.
