Having near-Hebrides blood flowing in my veins, I'm always on the look-out for any beer with a Scots bent. This one ain't too shabby.
Appearance: Cloudy brown body; white head dissipates down to trace. The murkiness attracts.
Smell: Smoke-y malt, with a slight peatiness that I really enjoy.
Taste: American ingenuity at its best: a blend of region-appropriate malts (continuing on the smoke-y trend) with a hop combo that isn't found in most Scotch-style ales. The result? A West Coast interpretation that I enjoyed.
Mouthfeel: A bit staid for me, kind of watery in the finish. The malty sweetness is evident and pleasant enough throughout most of the mouth, but it fades in the end. Wish it had just enough oompfh to sustain it in the finish.
Drinkability: Ayyye, noh' bad for a California interpretation of ab auld sod style. I've had a few better Scotch-style ales from America, as well as the source, but this one is pretty tasty. I'd drink it again, preferably with some neeps and tatties.

A: very dark, nice foam head
S: Not too much aroma, you can smell the toasted malt
T: toasted malt, scotch, caramel, malt, toffee
M: medium body, dry finish
O: A favorite beer that I've had many times. One of the best scotch ales around and not overpriced like many are. A defining beer for Moylans Brewery
