Poured into a .5 liter glass from a bottle.
Pours a dark copper color with a slight haze. Moderately dense off-white head dissipates quickly to a single layer of bubbles and a heavy ring at the glass. Lacing is pretty light.
Aromas are malty, earthy malts, like you would expect to find in a wee heavy ale. Other than the fact they are very enjoyable, there isn't anything else beyond average about it.
The tasting experience can be summed up in a word: balance. Although leaning to the malty side of beer, the weight, flavors, carbonation, and hoppy bittering is all pulling in the same direction toward great taste. Malty at the top and just shy of heavy in the mouth, the flavors mellow toward the swallow and then finish quickly, leaving a nice linger of earthy malt and very light earthy hop bitterness.
This brew just went down smooth for me and I found myself wanting another!! This is a big bottle of beer and at 8%, it's easy to get carried away by it. Nice brew! Definitely recommended.
