Poured the beer into the Sam Adams glass (thanks Jim!). Nice off-white head of about half an inch, which disappeared in a minute or two.
Color is amber...much lighter than I expected in a wee heavy, but good overall.
Smell is more subtle than I expected, but still pleasant.
I started drinking while it was still a bit too cold (couldn't help it). Tasted pretty good, but again, not what I've come to expect from a wee heavy (I'm thinking Skull Splitter, Traquair, etc...). After it warmed up a bit more of the hoppiness came out, as well as some of the subtle complexities. It's not a kick in the teeth like I would expect, but it's good.
It's really easy to drink, and feels nice and smooth in my mouth.
I'd be interested in trying this on tap rather than bottled. I have a feeling it would be quite a bit better.

A: very dark, nice foam head
S: Not too much aroma, you can smell the toasted malt
T: toasted malt, scotch, caramel, malt, toffee
M: medium body, dry finish
O: A favorite beer that I've had many times. One of the best scotch ales around and not overpriced like many are. A defining beer for Moylans Brewery
Serving type: on-tap
