A - This russet hued brew is cloudy and thick looking, with a nice solid finger of high quality foam. Lacing is fine and abundant, and a quick swirl brings the tightly compacted head back up to about a full finger of thickness.
S - Tootsie rolls, butterscotch hard candy (the cheap kind that comes wrapped in a gold cellophane wrapper), pumpernickel bread, and creamy milk chocolate.
T - Oooohhhh... two words MALT BOMB. This sucker is super-sweet... almost too much for me, but the flavors follow the nose and provide a desert-like taste. There are a few traces of hops to back it up, but just traces. This has the flavor of a grape tootsie roll pop as you are pretty much done with the sucker (grape) and are just chomping into the tootsie roll inside... when the tootsie roll only has a crackling shell of broken sucker-candy left on its outer surface. As the sugars fade and the beer warms, there is a woody campfire note that comes out and makes me appreciate this beer more than I did at first sip.
M - Sugary, sugary, sugary. Makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it. Full bodied, slimy with sweetness, and chocolaty-sweet on the finish.
D - Might be ok with some chocolate, but otherwise I would skip this bottle of liquid sugar the next time around. One plus, however is that due to the chocolate-cake soaked in butterscotch-cloying sweetness, the alcohol is almost completely hidden and at 8% that scares the hell out of me!
