A: Black with a creamy mocha head.

S: Nice medium roast coffee, dark and milk chocolates in the nose.

T: Milk chocolate, and lots of it, some light coffee notes. Not super complex.

M: Medium full bodied and creamy smooth.

O: Not as roasty or robust as a typical porter, but definitely good. Nice and creamy. Definitely worth a try.

22oz bottle. Curious what exactly the inspiration was that Chelsea Moylan provided.

This beer pours a solid oily black, with prominent basal cola highlights, and two chubby fingers of puffy, foamy, and bubbly beige head, which leaves some decent spooky webbed lace around the glass as things sink away.

It smells of bittersweet cocoa, somewhat sour milk (though that could be my own shirt after looking after the wee one solo for the past six hours or so), roasted bready caramel malt, a bit of dry toffee, bitter ground coffee, and mild earthy, musty hops. The taste is more of the same - medium baker's chocolate, toasty caramel malt, milky sourdough, a gritty nuttiness, cold coffee, and weak earthy, weedy hops.

The bubbles are a little peppy, and playful beyond their standard duties, the body a sturdy medium weight, and mostly smooth, the roast kind of cutting in a tad here. It finishes off-dry, the milky and grainy sweetness settling in, while the char and hops mill about, hoping to capture a few more hearts and minds.

An enjoyable (dare I say?) London Porter, despite the American aspirations stated on the label. The Irish were certainly informed by their English brewing neighbors, and that has filtered down, all the way across an ocean and continent alike. And if these perky Irish-Americans want to make it their own - it's the hops, dummy.

Bomber had no bottled date. Looks opaque, dark brown/black. Small creamy head.
Smell is dark roast coffee and chocolate, nice.
Taste initially with the bitter chocolate , an off taste metallic. After first sip not noticeable.
Solid bill of roasted malt with a good bitterness in the background.
Mouthfeel is creamy with just right bite of carbonation.
My first Moylan and will seek this again.

22oz bomber with no date. found a dusty bottle on sale for only $2.99. here's hoping it's not skunked out or infected.

i got lucky: not infected, not skunky. beautiful black look with great tan head and retention. smell is lactose sugar and not much more. taste is milky and sweet, with roasted coffee grounds and chocolate. lighter than a stout, but still flavorful.

Moylan's / Chelsea Moylan's Porter

I've enjoyed quite a few of the Moylan's beers...including THIS one. A very nice porter, in fact it is an exceptional porter. I was only able to enjoy HALF of the 22oz bottle because the other half was going into my authentic Texas Chili - which was a hit. The labeled promise of coffee and chocolate was not hyperbole. The coffee accent was not only forefront throughout including the aftertaste - but it even looked like a rich foam topped espresso.

HEAD/MOUTHFEEL: A two-three finger tan head predicted the creaminess - a very stout-ish porter!

POUR: an opaque dark brown with a distinct coffee aroma.

FLAVOR: Deep coffee and a sweet chocolate edge.

I definitely like porters that blur the stout style fence-line.
