Shakers in Roanoke is ok. It is a failry big restaurant, that was sparsely patroned on the Monday evening that I visited. There was a bar area and separate dining. Plenty of tvs to watch the Monday night football (GB over Minn). The quality was ok, the drink and food were edible, and the place seemed pretty clean. The service was friendly, but did not know shit about beer. There were 16 beers on tap....I'd say maybe four were non-macro (I had a Highland Moca Stout). The food was average....however, the mud pie dessert was very good. Overall the value was ok.

I've been here numerous times over my years of traveling through Roanoke on business. It's a very reliably decent place for lunch or dinner. The service is friendly, attentive, prices are fair for a midland type family-friendly place. But I really have to question this being on the BA radar. Although Roanoke is no Mecca for beer bars, this is little more than your run of the mill restaurant/bar. You want a cold beer, they got 'em, frosted mug included, not optional. And frankly, there isn't much here you would really care to have in a non-frosted mug. Frosted works for me here. They might have a few decent choices as mentioned in previous reviews, but this is not a place to find anything exotic really. No double IPA's here, no brandywines, maybe not even an IPA from what I recall. Still, if you want a decent cold beer, maybe a Sam Adams, sure. I seem to recall that they had Guinness Stout but it wasn't right, drinkable, but not right. Anyway, I'm not dissing the place at all. Very comfortable, likable place, but not a beer destination as we on the BA have come to know them.

Wife and I stopped in the other night for a quick bite !!
Atmosphere: Normal Chain type restaurant... You walk in and straight head is some sitting... to the right is the bar that runs down the left side... Everything to the right and straight ahead is sitting. Everything is done in dark wood and is lit dimly.
Quality: Again normal chain restaurant... Guess what I got !!! a Frozen beer mug... Guess I should have asked for room temp.
Service: Pretty good... Server was very polite and timely. Glass never went dry.
Selection: Not bad.... about 16 or more taps... mainly the BMC stuff... They did have Sam Adams (light, reg, summer & white) Stella, Guinness & Smithwicks... I went with the Smithwicks.... Besides being in a frozen mug is was very good....
Food: Very Applebee's like food... The normal stuff Burgers, Sandwiches, Steaks, Seafood, Ribs, Chicken and Salads.. Nothing strange of odd... I had the Philly Cheese Steak and Fries... It was not bad, not the best Philly I've every had... The wife had the Crabcake Sandwich.. Now that was good.
Value: Pretty average.
We had not been here in a while so I was nice to go back for a visit.... May put it back on our rotation of eateries...

I liked the atmosphere and open feeling that Shakers had. The place is well laid out and the non-smoking section provided a birds eye view of the taps and the bar.
The beer was very clean, not a great selection, but with about 10-12 taps they did have Harpoon IPA and a few other semi-interesting brews on tap. Mainly it is BMC beers they are selling. The only flaw being the glasses from the bar are frozen. My friend took that into account and on the second beer asked for a room temperature glass.
The service was good, had to inquire about a glass of water, but still was provided whatever we asked for. The food was good as well. If I cannot find a better place to find a draft in Roanoke, I will return to Shakers...definitely.
(Found this place by accident after being directed to the Irish Pub by the cashier at Lee and Edwards. We figured any place that uses "Good Food & Drink" in their name must have at least one decent beer on tap.)
