The ceiling is decorated with furniture, set up as a living room. There is a mixed crown of every counter-cultue you can imagine. Where are you? Welcome to the Bug Jar. Sometimes you need to get away from the world. You need to escape to a quiet place of tranquility. This is not this plae. The Bug Jar serves one purpose only. Fun. You come here any night and there will be punk rockers living in harmony with hippies. You will hear Techno one night, Heavy Metal the next and Funk the next. This place has something for everyone. A decent beer list that is always changing is always a good sign. They constantly have Custom Brewcrafters on tap. The service is cool. I always get what I want without an attitude like I get at other bars. Why? I am heavily tattooed with a shaved head and look anything but the norm. At most bars I'm considered a freak. At the Bug Jar I am just another customer. Finally, a bar with the personality to match its clientel.

Saw a great show by The Saints here in October. The Saints were fantastic, the crowd was a little lame, but the bar is great.
The atmosphere makes this place. It's really nice to find a bar that caters to a genuine youth/counter culture in an upstate city. Funky, artsy, punky--miscellaneous furniture about the place, art hanging from the walls, art painted on the walls. Dark, a little grungy, a great looking place.
Service was great even when the place was packed. Good selection of beers. Prices are reasonable. The only real complaint is that they seem to have odd hours.

Finally got the chance to check this place out last night. They have odd hours so after 2 failed attempts, I finally got in. The atmosphere was really cool here. It was dark overall with windows along the front that opened the entire place's interior up to the street's view. Large paper-ma shay bugs whipping around over the bar on a ceiling fan. Lots of dark, jazz-inspired oil paintings everywhere. There was also a back room with a stage where they have a lot of off-beat bands play once a week or so. The beer was decent, the only craft was Custom brewcrafters Whore-net ale. It was okay. They also had new castle, bass, rolling rock, stella artois and a couple of others. The service was prompt, the music was strange but cool, and the patrons were also strange. I liked it.

Ahh how I love the bug jar. This place is decorated really nice and artsy and quirky. The list of national indie bands coming to the bug jar has sorta started to crap out but there is still some good stuff coming here everynow and then. Always a great place to check out a show, national on tuesdays or local on saturday. The atmosphere is great, Herman(bartender) is the shit so even if nobody shows up in crappy rochester he will keep you happy. There is also a jessica simpson look-a-like. And a frumpy one. The selection leaves much to be desired but on draft they have Yuengling, guinness, Bug jar Whorenet ale(custom brewcrafters) which is very good, bass, stella and a few others. Bottle selection is sorta weak but they do have #9 and either snpa or anchor steam i need to check.
