Poured into pint glass at David Copperfields in Manhattan NY. I had not heard of Kelso making a saison so I was happy to choose this as my first beer to start off my celebration of an abbreviated week for the 4th of July.
A: Off colored golden which took me by surprise immediately. The lightes saison I've ever seen. Bubbly head, one finger or so at the start but then dips to almost nothing for the remainder of the quaff.
S: Slighty estery and perhaps a soft lean to honey and earth malts.
T: Yuk, astringent to say the least. As if I was a dog licking the spill on a stainless steel deck. The tap or keg must have beenbad because I ordered another beer halfway through. When I came back I got some berries and fruity but really not much.
M: Weak and watery. Sourness and more tangy aftertastes.
D: Far from drinkable. Hopefully the next batch andor serving will be better. Having said that, the lightness overall is what makes it different from other saisons.

From 07/29/12 notes.
a - Pours a hazy golden color with one finger of white head and moderate carbonation evident.
s - Smells of spices, wheat, bready malts, light cloves, pepper,s light banana. Kind of weak, but not bad.
t - Tastes of spice, wheat, bready malts, fruity malts, cloves, and pepper. No real banana, but decent.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Smooth and easy to drink.
o - Overall a decent saison. The nose was a little light and the banana was missing from the taste, but it is an easy drinking local. Worth trying.

Growler pour from DeCicco's in Ardsley, NY. Looks like a batch of this was brewed 2 years ago, and this is this years version. Pours semi cloudy dull yellow/orange amber with an almost greenish/olive oil hue. Minor (next to no) head, just the thinnest of films, collar and no lace. Musty/dusty nose, not of the pleasant variety, with a hint of over cooked cauliflower. Not off to a great start with this one, and things only improve a slight bit as the drinking ensues. I do pick up some light pepper, some hop notes as well as a tea presence. Carbonation is on the flat side for what I expect in a good saison. So many much better and more flavorful and enjoyable saisons widely available, highly doubt this is one I would seek out in the near future.

Poured a light copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and decent lacing.
The smell featured metallic and estery elements.
The taste was likewise upfront metallic - a flavor that diminished slightly as the beer warmed. Otherwise there was a spicy herbal hop and some esters.
The mouthfeel was average for the style with a vigorous carbonation.
Overall an easy to drink saison that is affected by some off flavors.
