Served in a tulip glass.

Appearance: Good looking brew that has a bit of sexy built into it, body is hazy amber with a slight thin white head maybe 1/4" off the body.

Smell: Strong piney/floral scent but not as sticking as you would like.

Taste: complex, had a caramel feel behind all the bitterness that accompanies it. Love the citrus, love the smooth strength that goes along.

Mouth: Baked bitter bread, feels a notch chewy. Almost like a meal with a touch of a sourness to it.

Overall: Finally a real good f'n beer tonight...An absolute luxury have here at the Republic in Farmingdale, NY. Will definitely have again and again as long as it's there ;-) Grab a glass on my and enjoy...salud!!!

A: translucent medium amber with orange highlights; big-bubbled off-white head a few fingers high; slick sheen left behind

S: deep citrus pith - dark and musty; caramelized grains; some floral notes

T: wet, rich grains hit up front, malty caramels; then bitter hops, drier and woodsier reclaim your malt drenched palate and elevate the flavor profile with their tight bitterness - hop and malt vie for your attention, alternating currents of wet and dry, rich and airy

M: dense up front, full-bodied; palate clamping hop bitterness airs out the mouth with woody vapors

O: epic DIPA action - not for the timid - the malts and hops are equally aggressive, and more-or-less balance out - great flavor profile, powerful nose, and massive body. Get yourself crushed. I rank it up there with the big boys of the DIPA set.

growler to glass. personally this brew was too boozy for me. However, the first few sniffs and sips were actually really pleasant, but the more i drank the less i enjoyed it, it's honestly hard to discern much flavor by the end of this beer. finished really really dry, too dry for me. lacing was minimal at best. i will say by the end of the growler it started to ease on the palate booze-wise, but still fell short in what i expect from a DIPA (flavor and drinkability). bottom line a pretty forgettable brew and i don't see myself seeking this one out or buying again.

It is unbelievable that a beer this high in alcohol can go down so smoothly. Sure this brew has a wonderful and typical IPA style aroma of citrus etc, but is also has a deep texture that tell you this is a high quality beer and is not all about the high ABV. A nice malty smoothness hits your palate and while the hops are sitting right on your tongue, it is not overly aggressive, but more balanced. This beer has somehow found a way to provide the drinker with all the wonderfulness of a double IPA and make it profoundly drinkable.
