A: opaque; a touch lighter that Coke: 1 finger light brown head that receded to a splotchy cap; no lacing;
S: dark fruit, pumpernickel bread, and, oddly, gruyere cheese;
T: whiskey is noticeable right from the start; it's most apparent at the beginning and the end; malt sweetness first, then molasses and dark fruit; a little burn in my throat, but quite smooth for the ABV; very mild bitterness on the finish; other than the bitterness, no hop character;
M: medium to full bodied; light to moderately carbonated; lightly dry finish;
O: good, but not memorable; I'd like to taste this again in a year;

Served in a snifter glass straight from a 750ml bottle.
Appearance: Hazy mahogany body. Medium to full bubbles on the body creates an off-white head riding a notch below a finger's length.
Smell: Malty and hops, light woody notes but lacks that whiskey feel I was itching for.
Taste: malty, little hoppy bitter with a touch of light light sweet. Lacks some of the caramel sweets of some better English Barleywines that I've had. Much room for tweaking, could use some aging, maybe a different set of whiskey barrels.
Mouth: Lightly sour, if you don't believe me let it sit to room temperature and you notice the rye feel that comes towards the end. Thin bodied, medium carbonation and light sweet malts at the end.
Overall: Good brew, but seriously there's better varieties out on the market that edge this brew. Won't name any other beers because if you a fanatic like myself you would know exactly what to look for. Drink in a glass and enjoy (or at least try). Salud!
