Undated bottle at 40 degrees into standard pint glass
Aroma of citrus hops with a back-odor of something spoiled
Head average (4 cm), off white, creamy, slowly diminishing to 3 mm layer
Lacing good – complete narrow rings of tiny to small bubbles
Body medium amber, cloudy
Flavor bitter, weak, short lived; no malt, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate light to medium, watery, soft carbonation

Appearance 3, Aroma 2.75, Flavor 2.75, Palate 3 Overall 2.875. Final weighted score: 2.8125
I first had this in 2007 and my notes (from a microfest) say it was an IPA at 5.5% ABV and was bad. Some things have changed; it is now an APA at 6.5% ABV and now is just below average. The head and lacing are pretty nice but the body is ugly – yes, I know it’s unfiltered but still… The aroma starts off well with some hop citrus but then the odor of putrefaction sets in. Overall, even if this is contaminated, it’s still better than it was 7 years ago. I’ll try it again in another 7 years.

Been drinking craft 3+ years now, after many hundreds of "had ratings", this is my first proper review. Saw a few reviews of this beer that weren't matching what I experienced, so had to get my 2 cents in.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into shaker pint. Very airy, white 2-inch head. Reduces to a quarter-inch cap that stays forever. Thin airy lacing remains on every side of the glass all the way down. Color is one I haven't often seen in a simple pale. Unfiltered ruby with golden sunset. Nose is lemony hops, some pale malts. Taste is more malty than the nose predicted. Nice smooth robust malty goodness, surrounded by faint fruity hops. Mouthfeel is almost "thick", especially for a simple pale. Drinkability is exceptional, as that nearly thick pale ale never gets "chewy" at all -- it just goes down very easily. A bit of unexpected watery finish actually makes me rush to the next gulp. This beer is really fun and enjoyable -- wish I had more than one. I think it's mis-named - not hoppy at all, and doesn't need to be, and doesn't even seem to be trying to be hoppy. The note on the bottle reminds that pales should be balanced, not overly hoppy. This beer lives up to that reminder, very well.
