Hazy orange amber color with nice lacing on the glass. This has grapefruit and orange aromas, as well as a very sweet malt component. There is plenty of astringent hop flavor here, but some of the bitterness also seems to come from roasted malt, rather than just the citrus hop flavors. There is also a pleasant caramel sweetness that balances the bitterness. It is creamy, thick and medium to full bodied.

tried the pale the other day now its time to give the double a whirl ok lets go for it

poured out with very little head and what was left of the head just vanished right away i wonder why either way the beer is almost clear but a little bit of haze it seems

great aroma i smell lots of herbs and pine in there even some sage there also is some minty smell too

taste is ultra bitter then it finishes really sweet as it warms you get more of the sweetness too

mouthfeel was pretty heavy but hey thats according to the style but it was rich enough to be nice and interesting

overall a good beer i like having the river horse around the only beers i tried from them were good i have not had a bad beer or a beer i did not like from them yet

Murky burnt orange with a fat frothy and lumpy head of meringue. Low aroma of sappy hop resins, some cotton candy and ripe fruit.

Sharp flavor of orange rind, pine sap, burntleaves, grainy brown sugar and caramelized pear. More booze than hops. Smooth, full and creamy mouthfeel. Tasty beer, but hops seems muted by alcohol and there could be more balance.

Thanks to NjpadreFan for the brew!

12oz. brown bottle poured into an imperial pint.

A: Pours a deep murky plum flesh. A good 2 fingers of latte foam head forms and hold nicely. Good lacing.

S: Healthy dose of good old American hops. The sweet, sticky, heavy malts unfortunately cover up the hops a bit with heavy dark bready notes along with some caramelly goodness.

T/M: Pretty decent bitterness level. More of the high citrus, piney American hops. Again, the big, sticky, sweet malts cover up a bit too much. More of the sweet dark brown breads and caramel flavor with a bit of toffee and nuttiness in the mix. Body is medium full and sticky, thought not quite as bad as I thought it'd be.

D: Doesn't drink too bad and the 8.5% is hidden nicely.

Pours a cloudy orange amber color with a giant tan frothy head. Great lacing that lasts forever make this a very nice looking beer. The smell is pungent with bread yeast and citrus hops being strong. The taste has a very bitter hop harshness to it with some bread yeast and alcohol. The m/f is medium with flavors not mixing all that well. This is a beer that I think could use some cellaring.

a: Like the cloudy chestnut color. Looks fairly effervescent.

s: Grapefruit, dried grassy aromas... Hopped for sure!

t; First sip, Sweet. Surprised me a bit, Very front of the tongue sugar/raw sugar quality- fades to a quick berry then woody - not oaky but something - before the bitter grapefruit rind gets to the back to the tongue

m: The sips rides the tongue similar to the way the taste does. Nice carbonation balanced with the astingincy of the hops and alcohol

I want another! But do not feel this beer with serve well with dinner. Id like to try it with a stilton- I see the creaminess going well with the mouth feel..

Decent drinkable DIPA, leafy resiny hops. A melange of hops, but enjoyable as a pint. Some hoppy aroma. Not as bitter as rated, decent colour in body with some foamy head.Average for style, neither offensive nor extraordinarily tasty.Malty sweetness kees it drinkable.

Ahhh New Jersey beer...

A: a murky amber, with ok lacing, very cloudy.

S: Some earthy and pine notes. Not much in terms of citrus. Would have like a more pungent aroma.

T: Mild Citrus and pine notes. I would have liked a bit more sweetness to balance it out. It seemed a bit water.

M: Slightly creamy not much acidity or booziness.

D: Very drinkable, no problem putting back quite a few of these.

Pours dark brown and hazy. I guess what you'd expect from an unfiltered beer but not really a beer that looks like a smooth DIPA. There really isn't a strong hop smell that comes with the class. A bit disappointed in the look and smell of this and my expect ions aren't high. The taste is OK but nothing memorable. Pretty plain taste and it comes close to over the top bitter hop aftertaste. I would not seek this out again.

12 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

Pours a deep hazy copper, with 2-3 fingers of very foamy eggshell-white head. This retains with a rigid 1/4 finger of rich froth that slathers the sides of the glass with thick sticky lacing. The aroma has a deep earthy tang, that is full of herbal accents and sweet fruits, along with a very spicy smelling edge to it that gives this some sharpness in the nose. Backing malts have a stiff graininess to them.

The taste majorly bitter and spicy, to much so in fact, with citrus rings and (to a lesser extent) pine spreading across the back of the throat. Tropical fruits, toasted grainy sweetness, and some darker earthy character try to soften some of the intensity from the hops but the drying bitterness of this just gets to be too much. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a mellow creaminess and slick feel but some sharpness from the heavy hops spices definitely adds a intermingling prickle to this as well. For an 8.5% beer, the alcohol isn't out of control or anything but there is just enough to help intensify that bitterness to the point where it hinders the drinkibility.

Wow, this ended up just being one disappointing hot mess of a DIPA. If unbalanced out-of-control spice and bitterness are your thing then I say go for it but I personally didn't even want to finish the bottle. Just not my thing.
