While I have yet to be wowed by something from River Horse, with a name like Hop-A-Lot-Amus I had to give it a try.
The pour isn't very exciting. Not a whole lot of head forms and nothing in the way of lacing is left behind. The body is a hazy amber color.
Scent and flavor profiles make me think more along the lines of an imperial amber ale than an imperial IPA. Notes are sweet tea with some pine resin flavor and bitterness. Nothing off putting, just a bit muddy.
Pretty easy to drink overall. The level of carbonation makes this reasonably refreshing and the lingering bitterness is appropriate.
The hop burps are pretty pleasing. The gimmick is great, the recipe could use some work.

Not a fan of this brewer, though as a NJ guy I want to be. Carton & Kane rule NJ.
This beer tried several times and upgraded, may be River Horse's best.
A: Cloudy almost muddy, brown amber in color with a modest 1 finger head that falls fast but leaves a spotty, again almost a mud spray lace.
Smell: Caramel and bread are topped by resiny, grassy hops. A bit of that Saranac stink.
Taste: Follows smell, almost a sticky bun kind of beer, bready caramel with grass, grapefruit, cinammon, and a lot of long bitterness. Alcohol is not so noticeable as the bitter, peppery finish.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp to start, sticky late. A peppery taste as the bitterness and citrus ride the tongue for a while, but too sticky/muddy for my mouth.
Drinkability: I like it tho it's muddled, it's a big flavored beer, a slow sipper.
