Summer Blonde pours a slightly cloudy gold with a shade of orange. A large off-white head holds with good retention and good lacing.

The nose is a grainy malt up front, followed by a sweet, inviting touch of fruit, and maybe just a hint of yeast.

The taste follows the aroma in the best way possible. Again, there's a decent taste of sweet malts, and this is complimented with some lemon and orange notes. The taste is crisp and clean, with a slightly sweet finish. Medium carbonation and the light body combine to make that crispness, which is perfect for these hot summer days.

If you're looking for a light, summer beer to enjoy this weekend, River Horse Summer Blonde is it. At 4.5% ABV, it's light and quenching but doesn't sacrifice any taste, making it a must-have this summer.

Very nice tasting right off the bat not over bearing like some micro brews who over kill with citrus. Little foggy small head but I good tasting this a drinking ale unlike others where you can only drink one because there are to heavy.

One of the better Summer Ales and it helps that it is a local NJ brewery..

Served on tap at Texas Arizona in Hoboken, NJ

A: Pours a clear to very lightly hazy light yellow in color with light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a half finger tall bright white head that quickly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of grainy malts with some honey sweetness, lemon/citrus, grassy hops, and light fruits (maybe apricot or peach).

T: The beer starts out with a grainy malt body that includes soem notes of honey sweetness and lemon/citrus. This beer has a light amount of bitterness from the grassy hops which lingers slightly.

M: Slightly heavier than light bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation.

O: This beer is easy to drink and light enough (and low enough in alcohol) to be quite sessionable. There is nothing that really stands out about this beer but it is enjoyable.

A nice clean beer that would complement a heavy meal as well as a light meal. The after taste is minimal and it finishes clean. This beer has excellent drinkability and is relatively light, but it does not have a huge taste, either upfront or on the finish.

Overall, good clean summer drink. Not a big flavor or at all challenging.

Poured a hazy straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and very good lacing.

The smell featured light pale and wheat mats and a faint herbal hop.

The taste consisted of clean malts and a utilitarian herbal hop.

The mouthfeel was light and clean.

Overall a quaffable summer ale.

A: The beer is very hazy light yellow in color and has a moderate to high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that quickly died down but left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and lacing running down the sides of the glass.
S: There are light aromas of fruit in the nose—apricots seem to stand out in particular—along with some notes of grassy hops and lemons plus hints of grainy malts and honey.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has some hints of grainy malts in the flavors. There is a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The light body nature of this beer makes it go down easily but there’s nothing special about the smell or taste.

Pours a clear golden, sun-colored beer with minimal head and hardly any lacing.

Aromas are quite faint and mild; lightly bready sweet malts with hints of biscuit and graininess. Light herbal/earthy hops.

The tastes begin very crisp, clean, and refreshing, but not overly flavorful. Hints of pale malt sweetness, light herbal earthy European hops. Mild doughy yeast flavors emerge as it warms.

The mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with medium to light carbonation. Could definitely use more for the style. Finish is crisp, clean yet watered-down.

Overall this is a subpar attempt at a Blonde ale. Flavor profile is muted and seems dialed back. Not horrible but there were much better options that I passed up on draft; won't make that mistake again.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy-golden with a long lasting, small white head. Aroma is of citrus fruit, some apples and cookies. Body is medium and crisp. Flavors are of biscuit malt, citrus fruit and hints of musty yeast. Finish is very short. On the whole it is tasty, refreshing lawn mower brew.

Bright bright yellow. Not straw or gold, this can only be described as yellow. Fluffy white head. Some haziness in classic riverhorse style. Slightly sweet biscuit and straw malts on the nose. Mild hop character.

Decently sized creamy mouthfeel up front. Bread crusts with a touch of butter, slightly toasty. Carbonation rolls in around mid pallete. Slightly earthy hops present on the end just to round everything out making for a clean sip. Not as crisp as id like this beer to be but it does add a unique twist to things. Nothing crazy but decent for a standard american blonde ale. Flavors are good. Could very well go great with summer evenings by the case.

nice looking medium golden amber with a touch of light haze that settles out quickly. large head of white leaves a little side lacing but not much as it settles itself out. aroma is light grains and grasses, a touch of bready malts and a bit of a lingering hop note that is soo faint i dont know how i picked it up. clean, crisp, and light feel and flavor, there is really not much to it, a touch of peach perhaps on the tongue but that was all, nothing to write home about

Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a massive frothy white head that takes forever to subside. Way too much carbonation. It took several minutes to pour twelve oz into a pint glass.

Slightly earthy aroma with lots of bready yeast along with subtle spice and light fruit. Faint peppery presence with hints of grass, straw, apple, lemon peel and banana.

Medium bodied but on the lighter end with some tight carbonation and zesty spice. Dry and earthy with hints of grass, straw and pepper. Bready yeast is the most prominent flavor but it doesn't add much to the palate. Sweetness toward the finish with hints of apple and lemon peel. Kind of bland but somewhat easy to drink.

I enjoy River Horse beer and this is a nice summer light beer for those days down the shore when it is 95 degrees out.

A- Looks like a light beer, golden yellow color with a 2" white head that takes a little time to recede with decent lacing around the glass.

S- I get a faint floral smell with some slight hoppiness and sweet spice such as cloves.

T- Very light and crisp, some nice bitterness and hoppy flavor, but not overpowering. Small amounts of citrus and shine through. This is a light beer after all.

M- very light with decent carbonation.

O- I like this beer for hot summer days and nights. It has just the right amount of flavor without beeing too overpowering.

Clear light amber in the wine glass. Beautiful big head that lasts pretty well. A nice mouthful of foam. That seems to be the way to enjoy this-- pour a frothy half a mug, and slurp it down before it gets at all flat. A decent tang of malt, slight zing of hops, and then it's down the hatch.

Well, this is a watery beer. But representing this benighted style, it's not bad. An enjoyable quaff, I have to admit.

This is definitely a warm weather beer. It is light in taste, texture, color, and alcohol content; this is what I look for in a warm weather beer. It is straight forward without any need for lemon or lime flavoring. However, the lack of flavoring also leaves you wanting a little more taste in the beer, especially if you like darker beers like I do.

This beer pours out like a traditional blonde ale. The coloe is yellow with a minimal haze to it. The small has some grains and citrus in it. The taste follows through with a lot of citrus, almost like grapefruit. The mouthfeel is light and smooth. Overall this brew is a decent summer beer. worth a try.

a - light yellow body, somewhat hazy, appears to have some extra yeast in solution.

s - grainy nose, a little sweet.

t - light grainy body with a slight fruitness but overall clean. hop bitterness and flavor are both low.

m/d- body is thin but compliments the delicate flavor. very easy drinker, despite low alcohol there is plenty of flavor and it was priced well.

This was strange to say the least, the expierience I mean. Got this on tap at a local Inn. First off and friend and I struggled to pick up on any scent particullarly with this beer, secondly this beer hit my pallet and felt and tasted like water, in all honestly my best describtion would be Coors only more water. I'm going to have to try this beer in a different format, this is to surprising, perhaps something was wrong with the keg. Regardless be forwardned.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Bottle lists 4.5% ABV.

Pours a bright yellow color with a very thin scraggly head that dissipates very quickly. Aroma is bit of spicy citrus, some cooked corn, and honey like sweetness.

First impression is a wave of corn graininess. Not good. Kind of musty tasting. There is a kiss of bitterness on the end, followed by a lingering cooked corn flavor. Disappointing.

Let me first say that I have not been a fan of River Horse beers in the past. That said, I actually don't think this is that bad of a brew. Is it great? Absolutly not, but it has a very laid back texture and understated drinkability which results in an average beer that can be quite tremendous when enjoyed in the proper setting (ie hot summer day). It's strength lies in it's ability to avoid the pitfalls that too many summer brews fall victim too (ie excessive citrus, overstated flavors, etc.). River Horse tones it down nicely (unlike their liquid cement monstrosity Hop-A-Lot-A-Mus), and make a very solid (albeit not great) summer beer that I might not go out of my way to purchase, but will enjoy if I come across it.

American summer ales: the quintessential hit or miss beer.

A: Bright clear golden hue with a moderate head that leaves slight lacing. Fairly appealing.

S: Reminds me of two beers: Honey Moon ale, and Sam Adams Summer ale. Both descriptions are good and bad. Hints of sugar and malt, mild hops, and a somewhat potent honey aroma.

T: Egads. This is cloyingly sweet. It's okay for a beer to be somewhat sweet, (milk stouts, belgians etc) but this is way over the top. Sugary sweetness seems to also stem from some kind of artificial tasting honey (flavor). Odd. Reminds me more of Honey Moon summer ale, in that they both have artificial honey flavors, and aren't exactly bursting with drinkability. Sam Adams Summer ale is a little more manageable.

M: Good carbonation, kind of syrupy. Loads of sweetness linger on the palate, in addition to faint hops, which is off putting.

D: Not something I will drink again in succession. I could barely finish two. Maybe one of these, if it's all I have, but I doubt I'd purchase this again. Flavors are all over the place, sweet, artificial honey flavor is over the top, which cripples drinkability. Really off balanced.

Bottle. A nice golden color. A fairly light aroma of faint malt and hops. The taste is more faint hops than malt. This is a light-weight fairly charcterless brew. Fine to drink after a lawn-mowing excursion, or to quench a summer thirst, but overall not a very interesting beer.
