I really hope I got a bad batch of this. I can't imagine the carbonation level in this bottle could possibly be representative of the beer, however it has got to be the fizziest darn beer I've ever set my lips on. Absolutely undrinkable carbonation levels. I tried to pour it into a glass, but it immediately fizzed to the rim. Burp. Wasn't impressed with it otherwise, with the pungent citris flavor making it taste more like a 7-up than a beer.

This was strange to say the least, the expierience I mean. Got this on tap at a local Inn. First off and friend and I struggled to pick up on any scent particullarly with this beer, secondly this beer hit my pallet and felt and tasted like water, in all honestly my best describtion would be Coors only more water. I'm going to have to try this beer in a different format, this is to surprising, perhaps something was wrong with the keg. Regardless be forwardned.

This is from a sampler case I got at Shelbourne Beer Dist. near Reading. No friggin' date on the label, bottle, or case. C'mon, guys! A little help!!

Pours a cloudy straw yellow with a 1/2 finger of white bubbles. The head quickly drops to tiny islands and a ring, with no lacing. Looks highly effervescent.

This has a faint, sour like aroma (from wheat?), not unpleasant, though I'm not sure it's supposed to be there. Very faint light malt smell, if you work a little bit. Not much there.

The first flavor is slightly tart, kind of like a wheat beer. Flavor is pretty thin, with no discernable hop taste. Very slight hop bitterness detected.

The mouthfeel is thin and watery. A pretty long tartness is the finish.

Not a very good beer. This was my first River Horse beer, and if all the other beers in this sampler are like this, they won't be in business too much longer. At least date the fucking things!

DATE REVIEWED: June 27, 2014... GLASSWARE: Ayinger willibecker... OCCASION: a ton of yard work done today--time for a reward...APPEARANCE: cloudy, slightly murky yellow-orange body; good effervescence; white, thick, soapy head; sporadic whips of lacing... AROMA: some lemon zest, some dishwasher detergent as well; faint wheat and clove... PALATE: slightly lively; easily drinkable, as the style would suggest; light in body and not fizzy--flat?... TASTE: instantly off-putting funk that doesn't subside with the next sip (wet cardboard?); malt is somewhat abrasive as well; this is NOT what summer tastes like to me... OVERALLL: sadly, a second chance at a first impression, and yet the same result: a bafflingly unsatisfying flavor married to a thirst-quenching body; plenty of other summer ales deliver more taste and harmonious experiences...

Thought I would try this beer as summer's end is knocking on my door. Unfortunately, not a whole lot to this beer. Pours incredibly pale yellow in color. Also, appears slightly tinged green. Slightly hazy. Only a thin and filmy head on top. Nose is amlts, but they come across as corn. In terms of flavor, tis beer reminds me of long nights working my way through too many macros adjuncts. Lots of light malts plus corn and other adjunct flavors, plus the hops are essentially non-existent. Perhaps could make a suitable picnic beer.

pours a clear golden color with a fluffy white heading that settles to a thin lacing that sticks around for about 3/4 of the tasting.

Smell is very sweet with a buttery honey type aroma.

Taste is sweet and bitter, with a funky yeasty aftertaste.

Mouth just went completley wrong for me it was overcarbonated extremely light bodied almost like a drinking carbonated water. Also it left a film covering in my mouth for dissatisfying.

Drinkability besides being light and a low ABV I really couldn't stomach to have another one of these.

Light straw yellow in color, no head.

Faintly malty nose with distance hints of grassy hops.

Sadly, this beer reminds me of a Budweiser. Slightly malty, weak grassy hops, super thin mouthfeel, and wasn't refreshing in the least bit.

I think I'd rather drink a Coke than this beer.

On tap at Bukowski's

Appearance = Clear, golden blonde with tinges of amber. Great looking 1/2 inch head of creamy froth that refused to go away.

Smell = Malty with barely a hop presence. A bit sour with a strong grain presence, not a huge amount of spice or flavor.

Taste = Don't know if the keg was bad or what but the beer was completely flat. All malt here. No hops presence or spice/flavor. Extremely disappointing.

Overall = A very bland, uninspiring beer with a taste not much different from macro crap. Not recommended.

Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a massive frothy white head that takes forever to subside. Way too much carbonation. It took several minutes to pour twelve oz into a pint glass.

Slightly earthy aroma with lots of bready yeast along with subtle spice and light fruit. Faint peppery presence with hints of grass, straw, apple, lemon peel and banana.

Medium bodied but on the lighter end with some tight carbonation and zesty spice. Dry and earthy with hints of grass, straw and pepper. Bready yeast is the most prominent flavor but it doesn't add much to the palate. Sweetness toward the finish with hints of apple and lemon peel. Kind of bland but somewhat easy to drink.

Bottle. A nice golden color. A fairly light aroma of faint malt and hops. The taste is more faint hops than malt. This is a light-weight fairly charcterless brew. Fine to drink after a lawn-mowing excursion, or to quench a summer thirst, but overall not a very interesting beer.

Pours light gold with a bit of a white head that almost immediately descends to nothing.

The smell is a touch of honey...some lemon. Nothing offensive, but not much there.

The taste is of...water...some honey, maybe a hint of lemon. Nothing offensive, but, well...nothing. Finish? I'll send out the rescue team because I'm not finding it.

Oddly thick considering the blandness of it. I think it's something of a honey thickness added to water. There's a lack of carbonation - sometimes that works, but I think it's needed here.

Bottom line - it doesn't taste "bad" because, for the most part, it doesn't taste. Strange brew. It might almost quench a thist in the heat because of its inoffensiveness, but...not much of a beer.

This beer pours a pale yellow color, with a bit of a wax-like translucency. The head forming over this brew is white and thin; it does not effect taste or mouthfeel in any noticable way. Faint smells from my glass were very hard to pin-point. Of course, it doesn't help that i have a poor sense of smell, but nonetheless... i believe the smells were white grape and apple. This beer starts smooth and almost undetectable. It is light-bodied with a sweetened apple or fruit flavor. There are other mild, thin flavors present in the beer, but they are very tough for me to discern. The finish is a bit of caramel (which overtakes the brew's sweetness) mixed with a little bitter edge.

This beer was not really to my liking, though I have no problem finishing the six pack i have already purchased. i would suggest it to someone who likes flavorful, smooth, light-bodied beers... but i found it too thin to be enjoyable.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Bottle lists 4.5% ABV.

Pours a bright yellow color with a very thin scraggly head that dissipates very quickly. Aroma is bit of spicy citrus, some cooked corn, and honey like sweetness.

First impression is a wave of corn graininess. Not good. Kind of musty tasting. There is a kiss of bitterness on the end, followed by a lingering cooked corn flavor. Disappointing.

It tastes just on the verge of going south, of course that could be the flavor of this beer. There is an odd smell from this that I cannot explain. A little sour, but mostly wheat. Yes, I bought this from the clearence section but I'm not going to hang on that. A nice orange with minimal head and a little cloudy, pretty good.

Mouth was like any other ale, but with a twinge of sour.

Taste, fruity notes, good , light wheat flavor was dominant with an ever so slight juicy fruit taste and above average hopping, but still, nothing really took center stage.

Drinkablity would be average. As mentioned before , there was a slight sour and a slight cardboard taste that means I caught this beer at the end of it's life, still, fresh, this would be an average beer with low ABV to drink in the summer while doing stuff in the yard.

Pours a clear golden, sun-colored beer with minimal head and hardly any lacing.

Aromas are quite faint and mild; lightly bready sweet malts with hints of biscuit and graininess. Light herbal/earthy hops.

The tastes begin very crisp, clean, and refreshing, but not overly flavorful. Hints of pale malt sweetness, light herbal earthy European hops. Mild doughy yeast flavors emerge as it warms.

The mouthfeel is medium to light bodied with medium to light carbonation. Could definitely use more for the style. Finish is crisp, clean yet watered-down.

Overall this is a subpar attempt at a Blonde ale. Flavor profile is muted and seems dialed back. Not horrible but there were much better options that I passed up on draft; won't make that mistake again.

American summer ales: the quintessential hit or miss beer.

A: Bright clear golden hue with a moderate head that leaves slight lacing. Fairly appealing.

S: Reminds me of two beers: Honey Moon ale, and Sam Adams Summer ale. Both descriptions are good and bad. Hints of sugar and malt, mild hops, and a somewhat potent honey aroma.

T: Egads. This is cloyingly sweet. It's okay for a beer to be somewhat sweet, (milk stouts, belgians etc) but this is way over the top. Sugary sweetness seems to also stem from some kind of artificial tasting honey (flavor). Odd. Reminds me more of Honey Moon summer ale, in that they both have artificial honey flavors, and aren't exactly bursting with drinkability. Sam Adams Summer ale is a little more manageable.

M: Good carbonation, kind of syrupy. Loads of sweetness linger on the palate, in addition to faint hops, which is off putting.

D: Not something I will drink again in succession. I could barely finish two. Maybe one of these, if it's all I have, but I doubt I'd purchase this again. Flavors are all over the place, sweet, artificial honey flavor is over the top, which cripples drinkability. Really off balanced.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy-golden with a long lasting, small white head. Aroma is of citrus fruit, some apples and cookies. Body is medium and crisp. Flavors are of biscuit malt, citrus fruit and hints of musty yeast. Finish is very short. On the whole it is tasty, refreshing lawn mower brew.

This is my first review ever
This beer had a cool cap and logo but if you're looking for a good blonde, keep looking. I liked that it didn't have the citric taste you can find in a blonde but it didn't have anything else to compensate for it either. just tasted like a light sam summer but not as tasty as that actually sounds. Thanks for the cap, but that's about it.

nice looking medium golden amber with a touch of light haze that settles out quickly. large head of white leaves a little side lacing but not much as it settles itself out. aroma is light grains and grasses, a touch of bready malts and a bit of a lingering hop note that is soo faint i dont know how i picked it up. clean, crisp, and light feel and flavor, there is really not much to it, a touch of peach perhaps on the tongue but that was all, nothing to write home about

Pours a hazy gold and virtually headless.

Nose is it's only promising point. Smells like a beer with just a touch of lemon.

Taste is pretty non-committal. Very average taste for a summer ale.

Mouthfeel is light with a distinct lack of carbonation.

Average drinkability. Easy to drink, non filling; but there are so many more that are so much better.

River Horse- Summer Blonde

Now that I live 10-15 minutes from River Horse I can finally sample what they have to offer.

Appearance- cloudy fizzy yellow with a thin white soapy head.
Smell- grassy, wheat, and sweet.
Taste- sweet, almost sugery. Light wheat/ grain flavor.
Mouthfeel- watery.refreshing. goes down smooth. A definite lawn-mowing beer.

Overall- a decent/mediorce summer blonde,won't offend.

A - A slightly hazy yellow body with a small white head.

S - Peas. It smells like peas. I'd say sweet peas, like the kind you find in your freezer section. A little citrus in the front, but its all peas after that. I gave it a 2 because I don't like peas, but if you like peas by gum this is your beer.

T - Light and crisp with a sweet malty aftertaste. And what a shock, it tastes like peas, but not nearly as strong as the smell.

M - Clean and crisp. Light bodied.

D - Goes down nicely once you get rid of the pea flavor.

Pours a deeper shade of straw in my glass with very little head despite what i thought was a good pour. Smells of some slight fruit, bready yeast and citrus. Drinking the beer i found it to be very bland yet smooth and satisfying yet at the same time you can def chug this beer. But that is about its best quality. There is a noticable lack of carbonation which i found strange too. All in all a great beer for the warmer weather, but thats about it.

Mostly clear gold blond color, just a thin white rim of foam. Nose is the only interesting part of this otherwise boring brew. Sweet, creamy wheat, mixed in with some vanilla. Taste is very sweet. Some light wheat taste, too. Real shallow feel, nothing. Light, off mineral aftertaste.
