Not expecting much since I didn't like Yuengling version but for $2.75 I am willing to try.
A - Huh a not twist off kind of "Belgium" of Straub to do this. Head is plentiful well over ab inch that sticks around to a hefty lace ring.
S - Smell is quite good. Coriander spice, wheat and a fruity yeast strain. Hope it taste good!
T - Quite good coriander spice and clove is balanced with the wheat and the finish is rather sweet. Damn tasty stuff! No hard water!
M - Light to medium body I could easily finish a six pack.
Overall I need more of this! Very easy to drink with no hard water taste or dry yeasts! Give it a try!

Honestly, probably not a pure/traditional Hefer but awesome. One of my favorite beers. At least the 2020 brew. More clove than most but obviously i line that.

Had this on 2016-11-09 in Columbia, PA from a 12oz bottle
A - Clear straw with a 1-finger white head and good lace.
S - Traditional banana, clove and rising bread. Nice.
T - Banana and clove up front then some sourdough wheat, lemon and grassy-spice. Nice amount of balancing bitterness rounds out this brew. Traditional and well done.
M - Medium body and medium-high carbonation. Effervescent with a dry finish.
O - I'm impressed. I bought this for $1.00/bottle (on-sale case sampler case price) and it can hold a candle to many Hefe's. The bit of tartness from the sourdough flavor was a bit of a surprise but it works well.

Poured into a snifter.
4.25 A: Well hazed dark yellow color. Two fingers of thick, pillowy white head. Retention is very good and a finger and a half of glass covering lacing is left.
3.75 S: Bright and spicy. Equal parts clove and cracked pepper. Banana fruits with a bready yeastiness. Neutral wheat. Simple, but effective with a classic hefe nose.
3.75 T: Flavors that corroborate with the nose. Mild bitterness accompanying a neutral wheat. Clean malts. Grassy hops. Trio of banana, pepper, and clove.
3.25 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. A touch bity and somewhat spritzy also. It's missing the creaminess that I enjoy in some other examples of the style.
3.5 D: Solid brew. Another bit of proof that Straub can make more than an AAL.

Cloudy yellow color with moderate visible carbonation. Quite a large head for a hefe as well.
German pilsner yeast and herbal spices dominate the smell.
Taste is subtle, and surprisingly dry for a hefeweize. It's the typical spiel: bananas, cloves, yeast etc. Carbonation is low.
This is okay, not much more.

My beloved, in-person trader, tone77 (who has departed for points south for the winter) dropped this off for me at one point, only to have it become part of the interminable bottle backlog at Chez Woody. I am on a (modest) hiatus from leaving Chez Woody to try and get caught up.
From the bottle: "Back in the year 1872 when our founder Peter Straub began brewing in St. Marys, Bavarian royalty gave up their exclusive right to brew wheat beer. 'Weizen' has become the most popular style in Bavaria, and is brewed the world over. We offer this classic Weissbier as a thanks for that good fortune in 1872."; "Our founder, Peter Straub, began brewing in 1872 in the German settlement of St. Marys, PA. Five generations later, we are proud to be one of the few remaining American Legacy Breweries (tm) in the country producing American lagers."
I agitated it in the bottle before Pop!ping the cap, then I gave it an aggro pour followed by a heavy swirl to get as much yeast into suspension as possible. It all resulted in a finger of dense, tawny head with greata head. Color was a hazy (not cloudy) Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose was heavy on the familiar banana esters. I was hoping that, as a lager brewery, they had lager fermented it, which really brings out the clove esters. Oh well. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was definitely of banana, but not so strongly as to put me off as so many have & do. In fact, I kind of liked that it had a reservedness to it, making it much more accessible to me. The finish was where I began to get the clove esters, but I really wished that they were more forward. It finished semi-dry, which was a nice change of pace. Hefeweizens are not my cuppa tea, but if they were to CAN this one, I'd give it another look.

Appearance: Slightly hazy pale golden color with a huge frothy off white head
Smell: Very clean yeasty banana and clove aromas
Taste: Banana esters upfront followed by cloves
Mouthfeel: Heavy light body; Goes down so smooth and crisp like a hefe should. Subtle bitter finish
Overall: This is my first Straub beer and im impressed, considering that they dont have the best reputation. I enjoy a good hefe from time to time during the summer, and this one fits the bill. The yeast is very clean with balanced banana and clove notes; It really does seem true to style. Id like to do a taste test with this and a couple hefes from Germany and see if it holds up. Im confident it would, its that good. Good job Straub!!
