This one pours a pale gold, notably more orange than many of its brethren. The inch of pale white head fell to a film, sustained by a heavy field of bubbles.
Smells your standard dirty basement and corn chips, but this one has a touch of wet leather and a hint of under-ripe raspberry to make this one somewhat enticing.
Wow, the same dirty sweetness is in the flavor too. Very interesting. Starts very subdued; little more than wet and bubbly. But after a moment I get a little touch of... is it leather? Soggy leaves? Treated wood? Feed corn and mixed nuts? I'm not sure, but its rounded out with again, a touch of under-ripe berries. I suppose if I can't place it, it must be good. Whatever it is, lets settle with nutty corn, it finishes dry with a little wisp of whatever that was.
Feels slick and dense with a pleasant froth, but a little sticky.
I'm on the fence with this one. I got a case for around $16, so I can't really complain.

ok A church function in Western Pa. Parson Wilson brings out a tray of bottled Straub and some glasses. "Would you care for a beer sir?"...I reply, "Well, I don't mind if I do." I get strange looks when I ask for a second then a third. I'm almost embarrassed to ask where the bathroom is in their 110,000 square foot mansion but I finally do and on my way I pass through the porch which has a paper back of some bird watching reference manual.
Its a fine beer. Might be spectacular marketed as a light lager.

Wow I had no idea it was such a low ABV. Still for 16 dollars a case of cans it's a pretty nice lager. Appearance is nothing to gloat at, just your typical bright yellow color with just a 1/4 inch of head that fizzes out a bit but the head stands pretty good. Smell is light bready malts, sweet corn, and a touch of bittering hops. Mouthfeel I expected this to be at least a 4.7% lager but it is a touch light, so the "light" american should be almost water.
Overall I prefer the amber lager mostly but this is a pretty good second banana.
