12 0z Can
Consumed: 01 July, 2022
Glass: 12-16 oz Pub Glass
Temp at Pour: 43.0 F

Look:
Clear pale straw yellow. 2-Finger foamy white head fills the glass and flowsly dissolves to a thin cover. Excellent lacing.

Smell:
Very Light grainy bread dough that leans a tad sweet. The 'AAL scent' is present - a light roasted corn scent. There is also a very, very mild floral hops aroma that wafts in the background.

Taste:
Very much similar to the nose but with some lemony tartness or sourness making an appearance. Some very light hops can be detected in the background.

Feel:
Soft and clean. The hops just about keep the beer from feeling watery. The body is, as expected, ultra-light.

Overall:
As AALs go, this isn't all that bad. As light AALs go, this is actually pretty good. It won't knock your socks off, but that isn't the point. There are no off aromas or flavors. It drinks absolutely easily (almost like water, as one would expect) and won’t get you sloppy drunk (unless you really try). This is my go-to (and favorite) Light AAL. Great for a hot day or after mowing the lawn.

FYI, my rating #'s are for style. Even so, I may have short-changed this brew.

Not much of a light beer drinker but this stuff actually has body and flavor.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is super transparent straw gold, head is off white with fine to small bubbles, great lacing and retention after several minutes.

Smell is very light malt, some adjunct grain, maybe some corn but no off flavors and maybe even some light grassy hops.

Taste is similarly light with near no taste with neutral adjunct grains showing up - its just so light in flavor its hard to provide feedback. Light grain and light grassy hops, no off putting flavors.

Mouthfeel is quite dry and moderate to strongly carbonated.

Overall a beer that just tastes like watered down beer with low flavor, though the appearance and aroma are enticing.

Had this on 2017-01-05 in Columbia, PA from a 12oz can.

A - Clear yellow-gold with a 1.5 finger white head and mild lace.

S - Mild barley and corn. Very light floral.

T - Insipid but not unpleasant. Nowhere near as much corn flavor due to the use of barley. Grainy of course with just a hint of lemon, grass and mild bitterness.

M - Light body and medium carbonation. Watery.

O - Better than other low cost light lagers. It's a bit more expensive and worth it. Sells for about $23 per 24 can case in PA.

Notes: On 2018-05-30 I had the Hamm's Special Light side-by-side with this Straub American Light. Both are the same color. The Straub had a larger head and much better lacing. The Hamm's has a sweeter aroma, with more corn in the flavor. The Straub has a little more complexity in the malt flavor, perhaps due to the use of 20% barley, and is a little on the sourdough side. Both are reasonably priced here in PA although the Hamm's cost is half the price at $.50 per can vs ~ $1.00 per can for the Straub.

Let's get this out of the way; it's a LIGHT BEER! And it is a perfect light beer. It is a no-nonsense, no-frills beer. Perfect for a hot summer afternoon when you just want a quick beer to quench your thirst. It is not heavy, or hoppy or infused with pumpkin, or chocolate, or jalapenos. It is a no-nonsense, no-frills beer. This light beer still tastes like a real beer. The alcohol content is extremely low; for me, this is a big plus. I can drink more than a few in a night and not get sloppy drunk and I feel absolutely fine the next morning. #1 in the light beer category

Straub American Light brewed by Straub Brewery, with an ABV of 3.20% First off I like the name of this brew "Straub American Light". Now for the review , the brew pours out a nice golden amber color. There is also a nice bright white head to this brew. The smell of this light lager is rich with malts and grains. You also pick up a hit of hops in the smell of this brew. Now for the taste, it is light grains and malts. Not a bad tasting brew. There is not much to the taste of this brew. The mouth feel of Straub American Light is , light , smooth, and refreshing. There is nothing overpowering about this brew. It is a bit on the light side, but that is to be expected with a brew of 3.20% ABV. Straub Brewery, did a nice job with this one. I would buy this brew again. Overall I'm giving Strain American Light a 4 out 5.
