Poured into a tall pint glass: color is gold, nice carbonation, fine bubbles; head is bright white, presenting about 1/2 inch thick, dissipates to about 1/8 inch thick and with lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is light sweet malt front, bready, biscuits, toast, followed by a light citrus and earthy hop note.

Taste is a bolder version of the aroma, nice malt front, bread, biscuit, toast overtaken by hop notes of citrus and earth/grass. This is a very tasty and interesting brew, clean malt flavors, big hop notes and crisp lager finish.

Mouthfeel is as expected, nice crisp flavors lingering on the tongue, some lighter notes on the cheeks, a bit overcarbonated so a harsher finish than would be desired.

Overall, this is a very well done brew, nice malt flavors, decent aroma. this and the doppelbock from straub are great brews

Poured from a growler into a pint glass.

Very nice deep golden dusk color. Nice head and lots of lacing down the glass.

Good hops in the nose and clean.

Lots of hops and citrus upfront. Finishes crisp and dry. Malts appear as it warms.

A fuller bodied beer but very drinkable.

This is a great beer. Fortunate to have tried it super fresh, but this is the best thing from Straub's ever. This beer has the potential to take Straub Brewery to the next level. If offered locally I would buy this over Sierra Nevada.

Pours a copper body IPA like appearance, impressive list of hops at 63 IBUs Bravo, Cascade, and Columbus hops. It took some PA integrity to brew a lager this hoppy, and it has taken off quite well since it's release. Aroma has citrus, dank herbal, a bit of fruit not exactly tropical fruit just plain old apricot fruits/with nutty apricot pits as well. Flavor citrus bitter pith, crushed aspirin, pine cone earthy characteristics this IPL has a full flavored character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied hop oils run wild on the palate, even carbonation. Overall a well built IPL one of the first I had during the craze last year when it was first released.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a very hazy orange-copper color with a one finger foamy white head. The head fades slowly over time to leave a good level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is a nice blend of hop smells consisting of some grapefruit citrus, earthy, and floral aromas. Along with these smells are notes of some sweet citrus of a tangerine nature as well as some caramel and bready aromas.

Taste – The taste begins with a nice bready and caramel flavor matched by some hop flavors of an earthy and grapefruit citrus nature. As the flavor advances more caramel as well as a lighter fruit flavor comes to the tongue. Along with these flavors other hop tastes of a floral and even more grapefruit nature comes to the tongue. Some yeasty flavor develop during the taste and combined with some pine hop flavors as well. With the sweeter flavors of the brew dwindling a bit more toward the end and with a surge of the grapefruit hop flavor, a rather crisp and nicely hopped flavor is left to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side as well. Both are rather nice for the style and create a great easy drinking feel overall.

Overall – This is a fantastic brew for the style and the price. Pound for pound, this brew really packs a punch. It is a very good go too; that is for sure.

Served on tap at Hollywood Gardens

A - Poured a nice light amber color, two finger extremely dense creamy head which looked awesome, moderate lacing.
S - Think Straub Amber with a west coast hop smell. Nice pine and citrus zest aroma, not powerful, but its there.
T - Crisp and bright bite from the hop addition, not as heavy on the citrus as I was hoping, but the pine is definitely there, then you get the smooth lager yeast that comes it.
M - Clean and refreshing, and with the smoothness of Straub that you'd expect.
O - While I do think IPL's will grow in variety in the years to come, I'm surprised and glad Strab took a swing at it. They have a recipe for a beer they've been brewing for over 100 years, and have varied from it little until now. I'm glad to see they didnt jump right into an IPA to get to the "craft crowd" but I think this is a good move on their part, and I'm excited to see what they can pull off in the future. This brew is refreshing and has just enough hops to keep everyone happy.

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Golden tan with a nice foamy, 1 inch head, tons of lacing.

Smell - Upfront aroma of citric hops, bready biscuit malts, lager malts, a minor sugary note at the finish.

Taste - Much like the smell, a balance of biscuit malts mixed with citric hops. Grassy along with some added sugars and lager malts. Herbal notes really add to the grassy flavors. Caramel and biscuit mixes well with the lager malts.

Mouthfeel - Citric and herbal hops first coat the tongue. Palate gets malts, added sugars and some more hop notes. Aftertaste is minor bitter, malty and herbal.

Overall - Nice and crisp, with a good amount of hops and sugars. The hop part overpowers the lager side a little but still this is a solid and enjoyable beer that's light and packs plenty of flavor.

On-tap at the Harris Grill in Shadyside. Too curious not to order one.

Warm ochre amber with a blanket of stuck bone-white foam. Looks good.

Grapefruit, pine, and earthy hops all present. Cold lagering mutes the note a bit, but the toasty malts fill in the gaps. Near salty freshness.

Okay, lots of floral hops now. Some pine and pith, but lots of flowery hop cone flavors. Accented by a smoother-than-rugged malt base and firm and fresh bitterness. Has citric rind notes and a kiss of pineapple. Delightful.

Soft and a little light. Carbonation is bushy. Appropriate for an IPL.

I enjoyed this brew. Serve me more IPLs, my intrigue is growing.
