Clear amber colored lager per the name, next to no head formation though.
The smell is sweet and buttery with a slight apple aroma. Decent malt but next to no hop aroma.
The taste starts out sweet and malty with a butter flavor and a bit of astringent grain husk flavor. Mild bitterness but the butter is bugging me. Doesn't really taste like a lager.
Mouthfeel is OK.
Not that great, this is almost a drain pour for me, would market better as a British Pale Ale.

I’m really conflicted. This is a beautiful beer. But a beautiful amber or red.
Smell is caramel notes. Light, drying bittering hops.
Nose and flavor really walks the line of an American amber.
Overall, a decent drink. But not to style.

I've had this on tap in local restaurants a few times without knowing anything about it. I had thought it was an amber ale and not a California Common. It is very soft, pleasant and quaffable. It is not an IPA or barrel aged stout. It has beautiful, subtle notes of malt and yeast esters woven together with hints of toffee and toast. I like it very much, but agree that it is too pricey given the lack of expensive hops, fermentables, barrel aging, etc....

The beer is golden with good carbonation and a head that dissipated rather quickly. A strong grainy smell maybe a hint of apricot, and some hints of hops. Over all very malty aromas and sweet. The beer taste is simple. Starts off sweet and bready and ends with a slight bit of bitterness. Very simple and nothing really stands out. The beer is thin but not watery, a little drying but I feel like I am grasping at straws to make something out of a very average simple beer. Fits with the style though.

This is a bitter, dry beer that has nothing in common with other beers of the style. Get the pun. It is drinkable but not great and is kind of expensive.
