The brewery describes this as a Marzen. I might call it more like a Brown Ale. In any case, this is a warm and malty brew with a pleasant hint of smoke. It's just very subtle. It is so sweet, however, with roast malt. Tastes of honey and cocoa. There is the barest scratch of hoppy flavors.

A grainy aroma with a nose of butter and honey. Sort of a copper-tinged amber in color. Quite drinkable if you just think of this as some kind of malty ale. On tap at the Beach Chalet restaurant and served in a tall 14 oz glass.

On tap at Beach Chalet on 7/14/09. Described as a "smoked Scottish ale."

A - Dark amber/light copper-tinged body with a thin off-white head that settled to a thin ring and deposited sparse lacing on the glass.

S - Hefty caramel malt presence with subtle smoked maltiness and a touch of charcoal.

T - Nice balance of sweet caramel malt and smokey flavor. Finishes with a light herbal, floral hop bite.

M - Medium body with a syrupy texture and moderate carbonation. Finish is bittersweet on the palate.

D - Probably my favorite of all the Beach Chalet offerings, and definitely their coolest named beer! This one has a nice light smokey character with a sweet malt backbone and even a touch of hop bitterness.
