Such a wonderful looking pub with it’s antique Wilson’s tile facades with some great little snacky food options, cask guest ale and friendly staff, a must when visiting Manchester

What can I say? A legendary boozer that clearly has history beyond my grasp. Rustic doesn’t begin to describe it. Multiple rooms to drink and converse. Also some outdoor seating which is where I ended up and talked to some lovely lads from Sheffield. A proper pint of Millstone Tiger Rut but I was also eyeing the Landlord. What’s funny is that the bar is run entirely by young hipster folk with long hair, mustaches, and hand-me-down clothes, but that’s just Manchester innit?

An outstanding pub both inside and outside in terms of the physical facility. I found both the staff and customers to be polite and friendly. The tap selection is not extensive but had good variety including a cask of an unusual plum porter. The inside is divided up into 3.5 rooms, giving this a relatively cozy and potentially quiet atmosphere.

(From notes on my September 08 trip to Manchester)

This place is directly across the street from the Rain Bar, and is it's direct opposite in many ways. The quaint architectural exterior contrasts the area, as others mentioned. The interior matches, being more traditional and not as 'updated'. It was pleasant, though.

Had a good selection of cask offerings, next to the Guiness Extra Cold. I had a Well's Bombardier and Deuchar's IPA. Both were great, and certainly quality was a highlight at Peveril.

The service was prompt and attentive, but certainly not what one would associate as friendly. (I guess that's my American perspective shining through)

Anyway, this was a neat place, and I would definitely recommend when/if in Manchester.

I visited this place on a couple of occasions on a recent (March 08) visit to Manchester. It stands, alone and isolated as an oasis in the centre of redeveloped buildings. Achitectually, it is a gem with "original features intact". It has a quirky layout of rooms, including an interesting on in which a traditional music session was in full swing (on my second visit).
It has a reasonable selection of ales, but not nearly as many as the Lass O' Gowrie; Deuchars IPA and a couple of other ales on cask. Nice place for a couple of pints.

No real ale visit to Manchester can be complete w/o a visit to this historical pub - so they say. And my only one visit there proves this description is just an understatement!

I went to explore the pub a little after 15:00, to the best of my recollection, and the jolly landlady greeted me almost as her last customer before shutting the pub for an afternoon break. I entered the public bar, which was rather narrow adjacent o the equally narrow island bar, which served 4 hand-pulled real ales from Yorkshire and Greater Manchester. Having little to chat with a local pair there, I retreated to a segmented saloon on the left wing and found another quiet paradise for lone-drinking.

My beer (Ossett Silver King) was spot-on, so I just took my time to enjoy the great atmosphere to the full. But just when I attempted to get a second half-pint of ale, I found the main gate was already locked and the friendly landlady patiently awaited me at the main bar! Well, so much so for a short but memorable visit it was, but this pub is simply indispensable for any serious real ale trail in Manchester, if not only for the legendary and well-preserved mustard-yellow and green front tilework.

A Grade 2 Listed building Peveril of the Peak is well worth a visit, its also near the Rain Bar (JW Lees) and the Britons Protection which has another pub interior of note. The Peveril has an excellent tiled interio and stained glass in the bar area. The building is an awkward triangular shape and i'd be interested to know what originally surrounded it before the area was redeveloped.

Anyway, great building but you go to pubs for the beer, on this trip i had an interesting Cropton Brewery - Endeavour Adventure Ale (3.8%) which was very nice. It tends to be busy weekends and evenings.
