Nice warehouse size store with a great selection. The beer section is split between BMC and the craft, but the selection available is great. Found all the Stone products I was looking for and they also had a fair amount of English and Belgian beers. Great amount of East coast Craft including Victory, DFH, and Magic Hat. I spent most of my time there just looking at the cold case and seeing all the great beer cold and ready for purchase. There was a guy walking thru the aisles ready to answer any questions and I ended up getting into a session with him and another customer who was looking to get into better beer. The prices were fair considering they are soo close to all the shore points. I certainly got a better deal there than if I had waited til I got to my destination. Very clean, fast checkout, and ample parking. Only knock is the aisle space. To get to the beer, you have to go down the wine aisles where people have dropped their carts to wade thru all the bottle they have available there. I traveled around several aisles to get back to the front because folks did not seem all that much in a hurry to move.

Stopped by on my way to the Jersey Shore...

Decent selection of micros and imports. All of the singles were kept cold. Nothing here that cant be found at many other establishments. Some of their selections included Founders, The Bruery, Troegs, Sam Adams. I did see a few Brew Dog beers, La Fin Du Monde, and even a beer from Nogne-0. This place mostly caters to the BMC crowd. The prices here were reasonable. Customer service was non existent....

I was most impressed that they had 12 different flavors of 4LOKO if you are in to that sort of thing...

I went in here to buy a few cases of wine for my wedding. The manager came out and made a lot of really good selections for Oregon/Washington wine. The selection of beer is very impressive. Plenty of Dogfish, Victory, imports, PBC, Yards and many, many others. Prices were excellent and unlike PA, they sell sixes/fours and cases in the same store. I really liked this place and recommend it highly if you are heading to AC or the shore (it's right of the Garden State) and want to pick up reasonably priced cases or sixes. Of course if you are headed back into PA and want to pick up some sixes, it works just as well.

I stopped here today because my new job takes me into Southern NJ, and I wanted to see what this place had to offer. I have been into a couple of beer stores in NJ before so I knew what to expect [sixpacks and bombers, the norm]. Also I wanted to see if the prices really did end up being cheaper than in PA, as everyone claims.

I was pleased to see there were loads of Nugget Nectar sixpacks still available at this store. I even saw some unopened cases still wrapped up on a pallet high in the air! My local bottle shop in PA is out of Nugget Nectar for the year...in this store the sixpack cost $10.79...ends up working out to over $11 dollars with tax, which is more than a dollar over what my local PA bottle shop charges for the same sixpack!!

Also I bought two bombers of Red Rocket Ale [Bear Republic], which were 4.79 each, not including tax. My PA bottle shop charges $6 each.

With tax included the total for everything ended being $21.80. That's a mere .20 cents saved by buying these items in NJ...not worth it to me!! Next time people tell you that beer prices are cheaper in NJ, just remember that it literally works out to being pennies saved!

I didn't see anything in the store that I couldn't buy in PA, except Ramapo Valley gluten free. I rated service a 3 because nobody approached me but then again I didn't need any help anyway.

This is the best place to buy beer if you are in the Atlantic/Cape May County area. They have a great selection and have at least one very helpful employee, Wayne I think his name was. If you call the store they will get him on the horn and you can check the status of seasonal beers, god knows I've pestered them about Nugget Nectar. Selection is about the best I've seen in south Jersey, which I know isn't saying much. Lots of micro's to choose from like Sly Fox, Troegs, Stone, Victory, Souther Tier, and they have great imports; rochefort and westmalle for example. Highly recommended for the area. Also a plus, is they usually have cases of great stuff.

My local go to store to satisfy my ever increasing taste for good beer. This is a large warehouse store. It has a good selection and I always seem to walk out with something new to try.

There's never a shortage of seasonal beers that are stocked well based on the season. Several offerings from Stone, Victory, Dogfishhead, Brooklyn, and many, many more brewers. Most recently I found a nice selection of Belgian Trapists. Most beers are available from singles up to a case and can be found refrigerated and non-refrigerated. For those who aren't self proclaimd beer snobs, there's also an endless selection of commercial brews
( Bud, Coors, Miller, etc.).

The prices seem reasonable to me with singles ranging from $2.00 up to the $15.00 range, depending on size and what it is.

My one gripe is the lack of knowledge of the staff. I once met a gentlemen who said he was the beer manager, but I have not seen him since and can't remember his name. The rest of the staff seems to have little knowledge of their product.

Overall, I rate this place tops in the southern NJ (Cape-Atalntic County Area) for selection. I'll keep going back.

Another Joe Canals, just a few miles from the surfing beaches and fun times at Margate NJ. This is the expected large, warehouse of a place. Tons of wine, tons of booze and of course, tons of beer. Unfortunatly they devote alot of their shelf and cooler space to BMC in all its incarnations, while nohing way out of the ordinary, the good stuff is voluminous and fairly varied. On shelves and in the coolers you will find plenty of worthy and well cared for brews, just dont expect to find much well out of the ordinary and usuals and you will find beer satifaction here.

Stopped in here on my way to A.C. before I had the chance to lose all of my beer money. Warehouse type of store with a bunch of wine and liquor and stacks of macros. They have an entire aisle dedicated to micros and imports. Staff is helpful, but they were a bit chaotic (could have been the holidays getting to them). The selection is pretty good...Stone, Sly Fox, Boulder, DFH, Victory, Tröegs, and some others. One thing that was a bit disappointing was that even though they had quite a few micro brands, they only carried some of the beers offered by the breweries. Decent import selection as well. Not great, but a good stop if you're on your way to A.C.
Just remember that it's NOT the Canal's store on rt.40. You have to turn right (if you are heading to A.C.) off of rt.40 onto Fire Rd. and it's maybe a half mile on the right.

This is my second choice for beer in my local area. BTW, it is in Egg Harbor Township, not Egg Harbor City which is about 20 miles west. Also, not to be confused with Canal's Liquors in Mays Landing whose selection has gone way downhill.
Their selection has improved quite a bit in the last two years. I once wrote them a letter stating they shouldn't put all the bottle conditioned beers in the cooler, but they did not listen. Oh well!
It is a big warehouse-style store with lots of wine and liquor and, of course, the BMC sections. They have expanded the micro and import sections however and give more space than they used to. They have a good selection of local NJ beers, NY beers, New England beers, and PA beers. They also keep up well with Belgians and Germans.
Convenient for people coming into AC, it is just off the Parkway and Black Horse Pike. Stop by when you're in the area.

Update 11/2010: This store has really improved over the years. While not actually increasing their cooler space, they've dropped the more common beers in lieu of the harder to find stuff. And the prices are good. I'd also say that they've been putting just as much, if not more, effort into their wine selection. ... ... ...

I work a job that brings me to Egg Harbor about every 8 weeks and I always hit the Joe Canal's because I know I can find something interesting. I could look around for something else but what's the point if I know I can find what I want here. And to be honest, there's not much in the way of good beers in SJ.

The store is well organized and clean. The service is good, although it seems like the managers are always trying to stay on top of the counter people so that the flow of traffic doesn't back up. There's an OK selection of single-bottle beers, and a fairly good selection of six-packs. Apart from that they do a very good job with wine, and a more than adequate job with liquors.

I'm not saying I'd particularily recommend it, it's nothing special, but for where it is, it's better than average.
