While this place doesn't have the greatest beers it makes up for that with its relaxing down home atmosphere, good live music and very eatable food. The beer is, as the previous reviewer noted, nothing to get excited about. A couple seasonal beers, some consistenly decent micros etc. I have no problem drinking dead guy and relaxing on one of the big couches in the front window while hanging out with friends. This place is lightyears away from some of the crap that Wallingford has to offer in the way of bars. There is a good vibe eminating from the place, it is quiet, the waitresses are friendly and if you catch a night where they have live music (which is almost every night) then you are in for a good time.

This is a great place to sit back and relax with friends. It has a great old fashioned small town bar feel. The kind of place where everyone knows your name. Towards the front they have some couches where you can kick back. There is an outdoor patio area which is great when the weather is good. They serve the typical bar fair with some Irish flair. The food is good, nothing ot brag about but goes well with some drinks. The beer selection is decent. They usually have some sort of entertain, typically a one man guitar player/singer.

This is what I would call a nice, comfortable, drinking establishment. Couches, darts (both real and electronic), outdoor patio, live music (including traditional "Irish Sessions" once a week), and of course a good selection of beer.
Not much in the way of bottle selection except for the standard run of the mill stuff. The tap selection is large (at least a dozen or more at any time), with 2 different stouts (guinness & beamish), cider, and some local brews.
Food keeps getting increasing better, with weekly specials. The dessert menu is incredible most weeks. They have truely original stuff you just don't see most places. "Chocolate Guinness Cake with Bailey's Icing", "Blueberry Margarita Sorbet", "Vanilla Castle Cake with White Chocolate Godiva Frosting"... According to the owners, they have a guest pastry chef that comes in and loves to make desserts with alcohol in them. What more can you ask for..?
If in Wallingford, this is certainly the place to be. It is better than any of the surrounding bars in the area, hands down.

Old Dublin's greatest attribute is the over all atmosphere. The place is homey and inviting. Saddle up to the bar, sit at a cozy table or relax on one of the couches and kick back living room style.

The folks that work there are very friendly, and down to earth, as are many of the local regulars. (Ex: Cathy, nice lady and a mainstay at Old Dublin)

The food is surprisingly VERY good, from standard bar food (wings, etc) to traditional Irish treats (Sheppard Pie, etc), you can't go wrong when looking for a great meal here.

How about the beer selection? OK, they don't have all the really cool micros, and they really should at least look to offer beers from the local CT breweries, but having said that, it probably has the widest selection available in Wallingford. Beggars can't be choosy.

If you're looking for that obscure micro, this isn't the place for you, but if you're looking for nice people, great food, a down home feel and some awesome live music, this place is perfect. Plus they have a new patio, great for a spring time lunch and early pint!

Stopped in at this place last night for a few pints and to check out some local music. A smaller establishment in downtown Wallingford that is quite inviting yet not too roomy. It has about ten tables set up for those wanting to grab a bite to eat as well as a twenty foot (?) bar and about five tables surrounded by couches for a more casual drinking and hanging out experience. They have approximately twenty brews on tap; nothing to really get excited about. About five of these taps were macros and some of the others included Elm City's Lager, a few Harpoon offerings, a few Magic Hat's, and a few from Long Trail. Again, nothing to really get excited about. The menu consisted of your basic pub fare and some traditional Irish dishes. The service was prompt and polite, but due to the poor selection, I wasn't really able to test their knowledge when it came to beer. The highlight of The Old Dublin came in their musical act. A local guitarist was playing last night (John Amoroso) and really made the experience for us. In all honesty, this is not a place to check out unless there's good entertainment (still, don't go for the beer/selection). The only way I'm going back is if the same guitarist is playing; then I'll be more than happy drinking Long Trail Harvests and whatever mediocre brews The Old Dublin keeps on tap.
