Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #36 (Jan 2010):
We always get a bit excited when we run into lesser-known lagers of the world. Could it be a diamond in the rough, or a mass-produced regional that never breaks into the big boys' playground?
The crest of lacing on the glass is a beaut--perfect clarity with some active carbonation keeping the head alive. Spicy herbal hop and freshly cut grass malt aroma. Crisp snap over the lightish body. Hints of apple peel, cooked corn (DMS) and a dry, floury bread character all seem to slowly pucker the palate in their own ways. Hops give a sharp bite with a small amount of spicing on the side ... then they quickly fade. Graininess stays and leaves dried hay in the aftertaste.
Tasty enough to get by; a better pick if the pot of mussels is bigger than your head. A stand-up lager that deserves a try, especially among the lager lovers, of course.

DATE TASTED: November 15, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Paulaner pokal... OCCASION: just returned from watching LVR's production of All My Sons--legs were broken... APPEARANCE: tawny, straw-golden body--comes across rather faded--with effervescence of various pacing; head is snow white and lacing nicely, like frost on a winter window... AROMA: the punch of Saaz front row and center; bananas and some off-putting wet rag as well...PALATE: soft, light-bodied and swift in its descent; active and bubbly on the tongue, inviting flirtation...TASTE: immediate complex esters arrest the teeth--apple and pear, most notably--while subtle malts work the throat with a woody, pulpish effect; floral, almost perfumy experience, a beer that dances lightly on its feet, yet it finishes with some grainy/rice aftertaste ...OVERALL: as one of the four self-touted "Great Beers of Belgium,," this pilsner has some product potential--over two hundred fifty years of brewing, black and gold foil necktie, a nicely drinkable flow--and delivers with a delicately complex pilsner worthy of a second look...

Crystal clear bright golden 2 finger bright white clingy head. Clean grainy nose.
Flavor wise a little bland, I wanted to like this because I like palm but it's a little boring. Definitely better than a Stella though. Sweet malty grains, medium bodied with a slight creaminess, faint hop bitterness tries to balance fruity sweetness. Carbonation is lower than expected. It is an extremely clean drinking beer so I always enjoy nice clean flavors. But otherwise pretty lackluster. Better then stella still.

On-tap 6/23/2013 at Doherty’s Ale House in Warwick, RI, served in a tapered mug glass.
A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short foamy white head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains lager yeast, light caramelized malts and some hops.
T: The taste starts out with a quick burst of malt sweetness followed by a very strong lager yeast breadiness that dominates. The hops presence is mild but brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.
O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a decent sessionable beer to drink for a long time.

11.2 oz. bottle - Part of a 12-pack variety pack (about $16.00 at my local store) - Poured into a pils glass -
Pours golden with abundant carbonation rushing to the top, forming a thin, bubbly head that lasts. Spotted lacing sticks.
Smells of grain, some floral notes and a hint of sulfur.
The taste is of some sweet grain, some sulfur-ish yeast, and a floral, dry finish. Crisp.
It's light-bodied, crisp, with ample carbonation, but not too fizzy.
It's a nicely balanced, refreshing Euro Lager.
