Light gold color. Medium to large head. Aroma is bready and yeasty. A lighter bodied lager. Malts are mild and slightly sweet. Hops are mild and slightly spicy. A fairly typical euro-lager, it is extremely well balanced though. Well made, light and refreshing. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours a slightly hazy golden expected of a premium lager, with a massive just-off-white head that dropped quickly to a thin cover.

Aroma is very minimal. What's there is pleasant, malty, slight sweetness, but just not much to get one's arms (nostrils?) around. Not bad, just not much to report.

Flavor is a decent lager, with a healthy malty profile, and a nice solid, but not overpowering hop finish.

Mouthfeel is pleasant on the mouth and throat, but nothing that wows me. Drinkability: I can drink this.

But overall, this just does not grab me. It's a fine beer, and I enjoy it, and it's much better than some I've had. But there are others of the style that I would like to drink all day long, all night long, by the liter, by the gallon. This just does not make me think that.

Pours a cloudy golden orange brew.

Smell is grassy and bready with a mild fruitiness.

Taste is mildly sweet and a bit spicy, mild clove flavor. Very pleasing flavor without any strong bitterness to it.

Mouthfeel is very good.

A pleasant lighter German beer, mild yet tasty flavored.

Presentation: One of a handful of brews that I picked up from Allgäuer Brauhaus on a recent beer trip. The 1394 Premium Lager has a white background neck and main label, exactly as shown (for educational purposes) in the BA Database. My sample arrived in a 1 Pint 0.9 fluid ounce standard tall looking brown glass bottle. The small reverse label added for the US market lists the strength at 4.7% ABV.

Appearance: Yellow golden body with what appears to be a light chill-haze. Massive white Teutonic head forms during the initial pour but this soon settles down to a thin covering but it leaves a nice smattered lacing on the glass sides. Decent carbonation helps to keep the thin head alive.

Nose: Lots of pilsner malts, honey odors and some fresh bread with a delicate yeast build and fruity aspect.

Taste: Soft entrance has a very mild Weizenbock feel, fruity yeasts and honey soaked freshly baked bread mixed in with a gentle spicy feel. Towards the end of the bottle I even started to detect some cloves as well. Lots of wheat beer characteristics in this one.

Mouthfeel: Solid feel in the mouth, a good drinking Lager that has a fine talcum powder dimension on the tongue.

Drinkability: A nice crisp, clean and wholesome brew that has plenty of character and taste and drinks well. It’s a freezing 65°F in Long Beach today, but I’m sure this would be much better on a warmer day.

Overall: The bastard child of Mr. Premium Lager and Miss Wheat Beer; works well though, creating a very easy going brew that benefits equally from both sides of its Parents lineage.
