A dead dark gold with just a finger of white foam.
Boiled grain and a bit of creamed corn only later opening into some noble spice.
Honey graham malts with mild woodiness to end.
Honey cough drop end and slightly numbing spice linger.
Medium, chewy, round, a bit heavy.

A big, malt-forward lager. Hops are desperately missed here, as the whole thing ends up a bit plodding. Lines up better as a Dortmunder. Put it this way: I spilled about a third of the bottle and didn't really mind.

A clear, golden beer with a moderate head that settles into a thin cream.

Smell is malty and has notes of honey and straw.

Taste is a little more full than your average pilsner. It's maltiness is a bit sweet and has some light dextrines in there. This adds a honey-like taste. Bitterness is present and develops during the glass into a moderate (German) lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little sweet and doesn't have enough spritz to be very fresh and drinkable.

Bottle from Keg Liquor.

Poured clear golden color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted grassy aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

My expectations where met.

Appearance – Kind of orangy for an Oktoberfest. The head came up OK but went down pretty fast.

Smell – There’s a nice, light malt to the nose but there’s something else in there that I can’t quite pick out. It’s kind of tart and sugary, like a Sweet Tart or something.

Taste – I found this with the first bier of theirs that I sampled. The style’s taste is present (light, creamy caramel malt in this case) but there are sour notes that ruin the experience.

Mouthfeel – Pucker up and say “ah”, this one will have you sucking your cheeks in. It’s very light as well.

Drinkability – Good enough not to “sink”, but nothing to write home to Germany about.

Sampled on 27 September 2003 at Hollingshead, in Orange, California
Would legions of lederhosen goose-step to seek out this Oktoberfest? I would hope not. This unimpressive beer pours a hazy yellow color w/ a small white head. The flavor is muted. It has a bit of malt, but not much. In my humble opinion, this was a study in mediocrity.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything.
