Poured from a cork and cage into a snifter, the beer is a brown to black coloring, with a tall, frothy, dense, cream colored head that sits tall and sticks around while you drink. Aromas of cream, subtle bittersweet chocolate, earth and wood, and hints of funk. Flavors of roast and old world fruit forward, with date and fig in the backbone. Booze highlights, with a chocolate character, and a dark, old-world fruit overlay. Very rich and layered, but it remains very layered. The body is mid-range, but lightens towards the end of the palate. RIch and roasty notes in the aftertaste, with the sweetness holding court. Smooth, slick, clean finish, with a slight boozy linger. Solid brew, and fairly easy to drink despite the increased ABV and robust character.
