Presentation: Slender 11.2 oz brown bottle with a “Best Before End” freshness date on the back label.

Appearance: Tiny champagne like bubbles rush though the tarnish golden hue, fluffy and dense white lace is firm and unwavering.

Smell: Sweet husky grain with a soft powdery yeast in the aroma, bit musty from the yeast with apple and earthy undertones.

Taste: Moderate body, rich on crispness as it is in smoothness. Lots of earthy flavours from the yeast, graininess all over with malt sweetness to back it up. Hops are in there with a cutting bitterness with an additional twang towards the end. Earthiness gets in the way a bit as well as the weak hop flavour. More sweet grain rolls in, bit of fruitiness with traces of apple peel. Finishes dry with more earthy flavours from the yeast.

Notes: Earth flavours don’t dominate but they hit a hard cord with the taste buds being at a level of being nearly overboard, not a bad beer at all and still worth a try if you are into Belgian pales.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a medium golden amber with a half finger off-white head with good retention and lots of lacing. Classic aroma of Belgian yeast, clove, light stone fruit and citrus, a hint of toffee. Flavor is earthy light stone fruit, lemon citrus, Belgian yeast and spicing with a light clove finish. Medium bodied with active carbonation. Nice balance of flavors and all the BPA components are there, but not very assertive, with a mild finish. A satisfactory, but not superlative Belgian blond.

Brown bottle, yellow label.pours a golden cloudy color, head is especially fluffy, off-white, with uneven yeasty lumps to it. Head fizzed up, settled quickly, but stayed nicely. Initial smells of strong bitterness, then some sweet citrus, honey, earthy smells as it settled into the glass. Lots of citrus and yeasty combinations, more of a bitter doughy finish than others in it's class. But very smooth and easy to drink. The delerium tremens is more spicy and flavorful, the golden monkey more balanced, but this is still good. I had it with a big roasted turkey, salami, swiss sandwich, it paired well, not a beer that stands alone, like the delerium tremens.

The beer on the pour is a translucent golden yellow color on the pour, the head purposeful in size, frothy in texture and bright white in color, the lace a fine coating on the glass. Malt dominates the nose, this also expected, sweet and quite crisp and fresh. The start sweet with lots of malt, the top middling in feel, the finish spitefully acidic, delicately hopped and the aftertaste dry and long lasting.

A slightly hazy beer with a golden yellow color and a thick head which collapses after some minutes.

Smell is slightly solvent, but dominates the smell. Some banana and green apples.

Taste of green fresh, tart apples and hot alcohol that is solvent-like. There is a fruity yeast taste. Hops are only present as a light bitterness. Body is thin and drinkability is OK.
Not too impressive, the yeast shows some similarity with the Westmalle strain, but this beer does not have the right balance or hop presence to come close.

Pours out a slightly hazy yellow with a white head that went away quite quickly.

Smells. The first thing i smell is very odd- coconut, like malibu rum. under that is a little musty and leathery. Very unlike this style. I am getting the feeling this bottle might be tainted.

Taste. It was not sweet as i expected, but sour. Reminded me a little of orval, but i really dont think it is supposed to taste this way. A bit earthy and leathery. I really want to think this is not how it's supposed to taste, but the flavor isnt horrible, just seems off.

Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. But this beer leaves my palate quite oddly.

Overall i will have to get another bottle of this and re-review it as i suspect this one is a touch spoiled. But it is similar in tasting to other pater lievens that i've had, so it may not be spoiled, just bad (imo).

I never had this beer as far i can remember. I saw it in the beershop last week and decided to buy it.

Poured it in my Duvel glass. The beer gives me a nice big white head which stays not very long. The carbonation is ok.

I don't know what i smell but it's not a supersmell. Not good and not bad.

The taste is dry with the yeast hidden in the beer.
Not a spectacular beer but for once ok.

Sorry but this following comment is in french :

Appearance : une bière à la robe dorée et mousse blanche persistante
Smell : nez légérement épicé, de coriandre et d'agrumes
Taste and mouthfeel : son goût est doux, assez épicé, belle amertume en finale
Drinkability : une bonne bière dans le style Belgian blond ale (Abbaye)

Appearance: bright, peachy gold color, though fraught with dark floaties drifting around. Makes me suspicious, perhaps a little afraid. Head is a powdery white, well-retained.
Nose: big with spice, sharp, and citrusy.
On the tongue, smooth, with mellow hops. Good balance, bright, happy taste, short, but friendly finish.
In short, the fruity flavor and generous yeasty taste, creates a nice, sweet brew, easily enjoyed.
