Poured from a bottle into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a medium burnished gold amber with a two finger white head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of Belgian yeast, light apple family and stone fruit, clove; spicy and mildly floral, classic tripel. Flavor is sweet bready malt, Belgian yeast, light stone and apple fruit, mild clove. Finishes subdued with light, sweet fruit and malt, muted clove and spices. Medium bodied with good carbonation. The aroma was classic tripel, nicely spicy, but the flavor is sweeter and the spicing is surprisingly mild. Although clearly a tripel, leans in the direction of a spicy dubbel. I enjoyed this, but it is slightly off style.

16th Dec 2012: on-tap in the Antwerp Gollem.

Slight haze to my golden/yellow bodied beer, on top a thin white head, it was larger when poured but by the time it arrived at the table it had sunk into it's self somewhat.

Fairly sweet malt and fruity nose, this also carried on into the taste.

The beer has something about it that I like: the yeast content sits well with the alcohol and although it might be a bit sweet for some it certainly hit the spot with me.

Complex and interesting: never seen it on-tap before or since.

Nice pop of carbonation from a 330 ml. capped bottle, yet with no over foaming as occurs on occasion with what I assume is a bottle conditioned Tripel. Pours a clear golden with a nearly white cap of foam and shows strong retention and lacing, classic.

Nose offers a pronounced and inviting yeast character along with some lemony spice. Aroma expands with warming and lacks any negative factors.

Taste is solid with a pleasant grainy character mingling with some lemony hops and some hop spice. Finish is dry with a lingering cracker texture.

Pleasant feel though arguably a bit thin but not unexpected given the dry finish. A bit of warming diminishes my concerns in this regard however. Smooth and supple on average and with very little alcohol presence.

Overall a solid Tripel on the appearance and aroma, lacking a bit perhaps in nuance versus the stalwarts of the style with regards to taste and feel. Still worth seeking out and a top tier brew.
