In September 2009, the beer style was changed from American IPA to English IPA /BFG Sweden.

Due to US rules and regulations, this beer got a purple label and the name "India Pale Ale" when imported (to the US).

A - Poured out a clear, bubbly, orange amber color with a one-finger, tan head of foam. It left a little streaky, trails of white lace.

S - It smelled grassy and earthy. It also had a sweet malty nose.

T - Nice piney hops with a grassy flavor. It has a nice burnt toast maltiness.

M - It was crisp and very sharp. A medium bodied beer with a dry finish.

D - This is a very nice "English" IPA. The pine flavor is more of an American style, but overall it works and is quite good.

Sampled RBESG 2006, bottle, as Nils Oscar India Ale. Deep golden to amber colour. Lovely hoppy aroma. The flavour is less outstanding, but still good.

Pours a clear amber with fluffy head and loads of lacing.

Smell is fruity with a nice, sweet malt base. Notes of citrus, knäckebröd, peach and some brewer's yeast.

Taste is fruity with some sweet biscuity malt. Notes of citrus, bread and peach with some floral hints. Solid bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a very well made English IPA.

L- Very dark amber, clear, pours with 3mm ultra-fine bubble white head (holds well).
S- I get a very brief fruity richness on first sniff but then it's gone. I try again 10 seconds later and the same happens. Apart from that I just get a mild beer aroma.
T- An immediate bright quite strong hoppy profile, with decent bready grains and malts in parallel. I don't get any fruits at all (=good for me in an IPA!), though it's possible winter congestion has impaired my palate. It comes over to me as more of a trad British IPA.
F- The hopping leaves a mild dry zing on the palate upon swallowing. There is a balancing richness to it yielding a satisfying robust and dry ale.
O- For an IPA, in the broadest sense of the style, I like this one. But as^ it seems more trad than hipster (that said the lable does describe 'hints of citrus notes'). The identity of this beer in the Description^ appears confused and confusing. The Orange, white and green of the front lable are clearly those of the Indian flag. But 'India Pale Ale', originally, was British beer well hopped enough to withstand the journey by sailing ships to colonial India. The hops acted as a preservative during the long voyage east into the tropics. I'm not pursuaded such historic beer would have had 'citrus hints' which seems a very recent fashion. Nice beer though, well balanced, and would certainly be refreshing when out in tropical parts.
Bought from Amathus drinks shop, Wardour Street, Soho, London. £2.65/330ml bottle. BB: 11/Apr/2020.

Pretty standard IPA. Balanced bitterness but not that much hop flavours.

Bottle from rlgk, thanks Ronny!

Clear golden-amber color, with a decent white head.

Wheat, straw, grassy hops and musty malts. Taste is defined by sweet malts, with slick yeast, pinched by citrus hoppy notes, resulting in a short bitterness, coated up by a bready malt aftertaste. Dry, smooth mouthfeel, in which hops go well along with toffeish malts, without letting the bitterness getting out of hand. Carbonation is lively, adds copper metallic hints to the refreshing aftertaste.
