Poured a deep garnet tinged brown with a thin toasted almond colored head that was gone in a flash.A nice mix of bitter chocolate, molasses, and hard wood smoke, sweet and smoky. The palate is highly roasted and earthy with a little molasses-like sweetness, the smoke is light and comes thru in a lingering finish. An easy drinker, the flavors are not in your face but keep you interested in drinking more.

A: Very dark brown, almost black. Had to pour rather aggressively to generate a 2 cm beige head. The head dissipates rather quickly anyway and leaves small lacings.

S: Smoky aromas dominate - mostly charred wood and coal, but some notes of smoked meat as well. Decent smell of roasted malts, faint vanilla, dark chocolate and spices beneath the smoke.

T: Nothing extravagant, but fairly good. Lots of burnt and smoky flavors - again mostly charred wood and coal. The notes of smoked meat is present as well, but not as prominent as in the smell. Semi-sweet porter flavors underneath, roasted malts, vanilla, faint chocolate, chocolate syrup and some notes of dark fruits. A touch of saltiness, like soy sauce. In the finish there is a faint smoke acidity, coffee, spices and hints of minerals.

M: Medium body, slightly creamy with restrained carbonation. Quite smooth actually.

D: Quite a good beer. The smoky character isn't that overwhelming so it's rather easy to drink. Nothing is really spectacular about it, but nothing seems out of place either - a well crafted brew. Recommended.

Bottle shared by pghlee - much obliged!

Pours a dark brown with a one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of roasted and smoked malts. The smoked malts are not as meaty as some (Schlenkerla) but rather closer to burnt wood. As it warms hints of dark chocolate join in.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Roasted malts kick things off and are soon overtaken by smoked flavors. As with the smell it's more similar to burnt wood than anything. Roasted cocoa bean flavors are also present, but in small amounts.

Mouthfeel is good. It has a smooth thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall this is a solid smoked porter that's well worth a shot.

Black beer with a brown foam that disapears quickly.

The aroma is of cacoa and dark malt with a light smoke aroma (I expected more smoke!).

The taste is very mild, but still complex. little liquerice and sweetness combined with the dark malt flavour.
In the aftertaste the chocolate combines with the fatty smoke taste.

A nice drinkable beer that is a got starter for people who want to learn to appreciate smoke beers.

Jonah's bottle. Smokey aroma. Dark with a bubbly amberish head. Sourish in finish. Altogether fun smoked, middle of the road rating however, must have if you like smokey beers.Light peat.Average mouthfeel. One of the best from the brewery's offerings. Decent drinkability.

this beer poured out a dark reddish-black color with a thick tan head, two fingers

the aroma is smoky, although not as strong as i had hoped for, and gives up hints of molasses as well

the flavors in this beer are soft smoke and a sourish kind of twinge that seems to come from the smoke as well as notes of coffee.

this beer finishes out fairly light in body for a darker beer with a tangy smoke character that holds on to the tongue after the beer has gone. nice to see people making smoked beers, this one could use a little more of the smoke however to run with the rest of 'em i think.

Pours a near black color with some cola like highlights at the edges. The light brown head is fairly small and quicked lived, settles into a light ring. The aroma is of roasted and smoked malt with some meaty and tin notes. Perhaps a touch of milk chocolate. The smoke hits right off the bat in the flavor profile. Its not overly strong but its the most predominate flavor. The smoke bring some char and meaty flavors as well. The malt seems that of a traditional porter. Nice roasted malt flavor but not too thick or too roasty. Some dark fruit notes as well. By the looks of this beer I thought it was going to be a heavy, dare I say stout, porter but its not. The feel is light to moderate with tingly carbonation, drinks quite crisp and easy. Finishes with a roasty bitterness. I enjoy a nice smokey beer and this didn't disappoint. I think the smoke was in proper balance with the malt. A must try for those who like smokey brews.

500ml. Bought at Sergios World Beers.
About black pour, brown just around the edges. Thin layer of off white head.

Aroma, some roast malt, smoked peat, lighter dark chocolate and cocoa.

Taste, really well blended roast/smoked malt, dark chocolate and cocoa. Coffee and smoke finish.

Smack dab in the middle body wise. Near creamy, no alcohol. A great drink as long as you're ready for it.
I wish the cost was just a little lower.

Shared ever so generously by Tony @ Local Option. Thanks man!

Into a fluted tulip glass, this poured jet black, with a glint of ruby in the meniscus when held to the light. The nose was all smoke, fairly clean and dry. Flavors of carob, bittersweet chocolate, pipe tobacco. Bitter, earthy char. Smoke was prevalent, yet not overwhelming. It was like having campfire smoke on your clothes after a camping weekend. Long aftertaste of roasty char that seemed to linger forever. Before long I needed another sip, as it reminded me what I was missing. Split a bottle with Botham, but could have finished 1-2 easily.

500 ml bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown with about an inch and a half frothy tan head. Head retention is pretty good, and there's also a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is smoked and roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and a bit of dark fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma, with a nice lingering smoky finish. Also, I think the smoke is stronger in the taste than it is compared to the aroma. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit creamy and it has moderate carbonation. This brew is very easy to drink, it's pretty smooth and quite enjoyable. I think this is a good overall beer, I'll definitely buy this again the next time I see it.

Pours a solid black, with a finger of light brown coloured head. Leaves a bit of lace and svelt retention.

The aroma isn't extreme with the smoke, but it's nice, with some meatiness, chocolate, licorice and toffee.

Taste is a bit more meaty and smoky, tinges of dark chocolate, coffee, and high roast.

The feel has a nice nearly full and creamy body, nice carbonation, clean and smooth.

Strikes a nice balance with the sweetness and meaty character, overall quite a nice smoked porter.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass

A-Pours dark brown with a 3 finger root beer like head. Medium lacing

S-Smoke, lots of it. Smoked meats, caramel, stewed fruits

T & M-Medium bodied with lots of roasted malt flavors. The smoke is present but much more subtle than in the nose. Finishes with a lingering coffee ground taste.

Doug picked this one up at Perry's in Livermore and I'm glad he did... as you'll read. I'm not a fan of smoked beers, but this one did it for me.

poured a deep brown with almost a reddish hue around the edges. A decent, tan head gave way to a very solid lace... it's an attractive beer, though a bit watery looking.

smelled quite nice actually. not as much smoke as I had expected... there was just as much coffee and baker's chocolate as there was a woody smoke tinge.

tasted of sweet and burnt coffee... imagine burning your coffee and then loading it up with sugar. not overly sweet malty, but just enough to balance the smoke.

the mouth was this beers worst aspect... not bad necessarily, just a lot lighter than I would have liked. It's got a good creaminess to it, but just feels a bit diluted.

overall, a very drinkable beer... the most drinkable smoked porter that I've come across at least.

A: Black with some brown highlights. Billowing ruddy brown head settles into a nice foam collar.

S: Aroma is primarily chocolate malt, with oats with a little lactose. A light smokeyness emerges as things warm up.

T: Chocolate flavor is surprisingly pronounced and complimented by a slight sweetness. Roasted malt isn't that heavy, but is rich while the smoke flavor is subtle. Finish is long and ends a bit dry.

M: Soft and smooth, with light carbonation.

A very well-rounded and drinkable porter. I could happily enjoy three or four of these in a sitting.

Poured a very dark brown, almost black with a medium tan head that faded slow and left spotty, sea foam lace. The smell was of medium smoke, some chocolate notes, and a hint of weak coffee. Some earthy and grassy hops in the back.

The taste followed the nose with a good dose of smoke, campfire and crackling hickory. Cocoa, and chocolate malts dominate, with molasis and earthy hops. Simple and enjoyable.

Smooth, a little thin, but goes down easy.

An awesome smoke porter I would definitely buy again.
