The colour is brown-amber (35 EBC), the liquid is clear. The beige airy head sinks quickly to a thin lid leaving no lacing.
The powerful smell is smokey with distinct Bamberg notes of delicatessen, smoked cheese and sweet mature fruits like plums, and red apples. Notable clean bitter notes and some sour pumpernickel flavours.
The taste is powerful and Franconian, too. Smoked delicatessen, quite a lot of salt and notes of toasted bread. Smooth clean bitterness. Dark bread. Caramel in the background. Medium to full body. The aftertaste is smoked with salty notes, smooth bread-like sweetness and dry hints of matured fruits.
The carbonation is light, the many small bubbles are long-lived. The liquid is mid-smooth with some dryness.
A fine rauchbier, quite close to the Franconian originals.
