Dark and earthy, this robust porter exhibits rich mocha-like complexity, with a dry finish that keeps all hands on deck.

Dark brown in color. The roasted malt notes on the nose are fairly weak. Decent roasted malt in the flavor profile but there was also a funny “off” flavor that I could not place.

Poured into a mug, the appearance was a black color with a lasting finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a mild pace. Some lace, somewhat stringy and sliding. The aroma had some roastiness, coffee beans and grounds, light smoke, some black licorice - sweet and spicy tones, dark fruits, sweet wood, and a touch of cereal grain sweetness. The flavor was moderately roasty with a touch of the sweet trying to balance. And it does a pretty good job for the most part. Sly roasty aftertaste. Not much of a finish, somewhat roasty - somewhat sweet. The palate was almost medium bodied seeming to sit just a touch under and having a pretty good carbonation. ABV felt good. Overall, pretty good porter, I might be able to come back to.

Appearance: Pours a translucent coffee color with a one finger mocha head; shards of lacing linger
Smell: Chocolate, toasted brown bread with notes of smoke, earth and coffee
Taste: Chocolate and toasted brown bread forward, with an earthy hop character building through the middle; touches of smoke, fruit and coffee in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A very nice porter; like the fruit and chocolate elements and the touch of smoke

Pours a darker brown color with tan colored head. Roasted malts dominate the nose with just a little chocolate; follows onto the palate. Medium to full bodied. Finishes with a very nice roastiness.

Pours a deep brown color with a dark tan head. Head is medium size with less than average retention. Lacing is just isolated spots on the pint glass. Strong and pleasant aroma of rich sweet malt, a little lactose like milk stout and some coffee. Taste is more of the same, slightly sweet and malty with some coffee. There is a some smokiness is the taste that is not found in the aroma and slight bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is rich and mostly smooth with a touch of bitterness in the end. No alcohol presence noticeable. A very enjoyable porter.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 4/17/2016. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toasted dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toasted dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toasted dark bread, nuttiness, light dark fruit, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast/hop bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent English porter style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
