12 oz. bottle (estimated about a year old) poured into a Maudite tulip. Black, but not opaque. There's a little bit of translucent brown tint to it that makes it look not-too-stouty. Nice tan head, okay lacing.
Bitter coffee aroma.
Initial flavor is also bitter coffee (not exactly espressoey like a lot of imperial stouts though), but then develops into some sweet toffee and molasses. Also just a little hint of bourbon and figs. Other than possible "figginess," not a whole lot of that dark fruit/berry flavor that I usually enjoy in imperial stouts. Also, I didn't find it chocolatey really - mostly just toffee and molasses. Doesn't really taste like a stout though - it tastes like a doppelbock trying to be a stout. But that's not a bad taste by any means - it does taste pretty good.
Mouthfeel is a little dry, not too carbonated, and much thinner than most imperial stouts.
Pretty drinkable I'd say - not much alcohol heat. A bit of age might have smoothed that out. It's a perfectly good beer, but as you've probably gathered from all the "other imperial stouts taste like ___" lines I've written, it doesn't quite live up to others of its style. I'm all for uniqueness, but when you expect one thing and get another, it can be disappointing for some. If it weren't for all that, I guarantee I would have given it higher marks.

Pours a near black color with a slight, slight hue of red. Very little head to speak of; leaves a slight trace of lacing along the glass as you finish. The smell is strongest with hints of chocolate, coffee, raisins; the taste is very sweet, slightly grainy, typical carbonation for a stout with this high a ABV. Very sweet finish. Overall, a good imperial stout for the price.
